Hell if I know. The whole issue the Jews and others had was they never fit in anywhere, never fully adopting a state's culture or religion, so they were always seen as an internal threat. You give the Jews their own state, no such problem anymore. Jews had already emigrated their en masse before the end of WWII, so it wasn't like Israel forming was unexpected. Many Arab leaders saw the writing on the wall and tried to get the British to limit Jewish immigration to the region of Palestine, but to no avail.

Irrelevant. OP thinks the Palestinians are the irredentists. Zionism is the only success non-national irredentist movement so far as I know. Palestinian claims on Israeli territory won't constitute irredentism until the displaced people are dead, which is happening soon. Until they die, they're just people who want their home back, which is a legitimate claim resolvable in various ways. The hallmark of irredentism is not that there is a claim on uncontrolled territory, but that the claim is old enough that no living person is a direct party to the claim.
