Yes, this is why people living in communist countries flee to the horrendous discomfort of non-communist countries.

>Never lived under socialism

How would you know any better? You've lived the life of neo-feudal corporate serf for all of your existence...

Apart from having less shitty ass made in China consumer garbage to choose from (which no one needs), life under socialism was breddy good.

It REALLY went to shit in the immediate transition period in the 90s.

t. Actual Eastern European boomer.

If you think communism is bad, in America the government doesn't even give them bread.

/thread

What do you even mean? We didn't "get" bread from the government. We bought it from the bakery sometimes owned by government.

The bread wasn't free.

So...
What you're saying is...
It wasn't real communism?

No.

Well yeah, I am a national socialist. One of the founding fathers of Jow Forums in fact.

in the USSR if you joined the party then very comfy. party membership was voluntary but you got great perks if you were a member including priority in housing, work location, commodities, etc. if you wanted to be a proud political dissenter against the party or just a lazy bumfuck alcoholic, then no, not that great, but marginally better than the average federal poverty level as designated in the US

those stereotypical communal apartments, where you a have a private room, but shared the kitchen and bath on your floor) where designated for the dissenters and lazy fucks. Most people in the west now live with roommates because they can't afford to live on their own, so it's not too different now. Except in the USSR you could improve your lot by contributing to society.

University and hospitals were free. Everyone had free housing, everyone who wanted to a purposeful job had one, materialism was reduced to ownership of a small set of precious items, e.g. gold, precious gems, crystal glass, and there was still opportunities offer certain specialized skills for compensation, almost like a freelancer economy (it's not like money or markets didn't exist in the USSR). The USSR had order and a mission and 80% of the population was willing to ride along.
