Why do people keep saying the Black population is dropping or staying the same? In order to maintain the same proportion (11 - 13%) of the US population, while the White proportion is dropping and the Asian + Hispanic proportion is increasing, the Black population has had to increase at a higher rate than replacement level and the White proportion. If there was no Hispanic or Asian immigration to the US since the 60s, the Black population and therefore its proportion would have increased massively compared to the White population, probably up to about 25 - 30%, even including abortion and birth control. If the Black population had similar or lower growth rates compared to the White population, they would likely be down to 7 - 8% of the US population now (as they were back in the 1800s-early 1900s).
In conclusion, the Black population is also increasing massively in the US, which is how they have maintained and even slightly increased their share of the US population (11 - 13%) despite the increase in the total population and rise of Hispanic + Asian populations, instead of decreasing along with the White population.
Black US population:
1930 - 11,891,143 9.7%
2010 - 42,020,743 13.6%
Increase: 30,189,600
Growth rate: 2.5
White US population:
1930 - 110,286,740 90%
2010 - 196,817,552 63.7%
Increase: 86,530,812
Growth rate: 0.7
US population in 2010 without Hispanic + Asian populations
Total population: 238,838,295
White population: 196,817,552 (82%)
Black population: 42,020,743 (18%)
Maybe take off 1 or 2% to include Native American and minor immigration figures, and adding an extra 1 or 2% for mixed white/blacks:
Whites: 80%
Blacks + mixed: 18-19%
and that is just with 2010 figures.
