And oddly enough, the religious right used to be worried about out-of-control third-world population growth. A small example many people have forgotten - during the 2012 GOP primaries, the other Republican candidates were struggling to compete with Mitt Romney. Newt Gingrich finally attacked him on populist grounds for being a "corporate raider," and the attacks worked.
But he suddenly stopped that line of attack after being scolded by members of his party. "Newt doesn't speak for us; we believe in free-market capitalism." And Newt more or less apologized to Romney. He had forgotten that his "side" is not allowed to use populist economic arguments. And he was "policed" back into line.
