The media shrouded him in the cloak of a war hero and patriot only because he consistently voted the way they wanted. The left never embraces anyone as a war hero and gives no fucks whatsoever to anyone who served unless doing so is a means to suppress anyone who would disagree with someone they own or protect. McCain's service was honorable and the injuries and torture he sustained were horrific, but his actions as a POW were not in the finest interest of his country and in keeping with the code of conduct as a soldier.
Again the left shielded him from this criticism and continue to do so to this day.
The left protected him in the Keating Five investigation and owned him from that point on.
The right will try to successfully reconcile McCain's legacy as someone who tried his best to unite the left and right under civility but his selling out to the left and the damage he caused by doing so will not be forgotten.
