You touched on something serious here with that last word. A lot of people in the shadows whispering to the alt-right are actual facists and nazis, who follow the intellectual basis of that group from Hegel to Evola and so on, this intellectual underpinning actually rejects the truth of reality for what they consider meta truths. They despise rationality and empiricism brought about by classical liberalism and the enlightenment which they also despise.

So it is a contradiction to talk about western society but then to literally had the vast majority of western history and development for some idealized version of the path with some hidden forbidden knowledge and meta truths that no one can actually put their finger on, only these manifestations of "traditionalism", "ethno-nationalism" etc.
