It is often all boring and uninspired. At the heart of it is typically fun,though, and it does have some level of meritocracy and barrier to entry involved which is nice. It kind of keeps most "normies" out by default.

Oh one more thing. Metal that takes itself too seriously is seriously gay. It's sort of like a horror movie that takes itself too seriously - especially if the movie isn't utterly groundbreaking. Since MOST metal is shut (like most of anything) it is imperative to have good humour.
i'd say it's net based. for example Johan Hegg from Amon Amarth is ultra-cuck, but there's literally nothing wrong with his music. it pumps you up that you could move mountains, it's pro-European mostly. go to metal archives and search for bands about nationalism, NSBM and stuff like that, that way it's guaranteed that you will find good shit. basedboyery was always in metal, you just have to learn to ignore it.
