>What are the elections looking like?
Poroshenko's poll numbers are predictably abysmal (5%-10% approval rating) but he has the advantage of nearly unanimous support of the Ukrainian oligarchy and the West. The West needs him because he (and the political factions aligned with him) are their best bet for preventing outright default. The Ukrainian oligarchy need him for the same reason and also because they have agreements carefully worked out with him, which they are afraid the new administration may not feel bound to adhere to (especially if it is more populist-oriented). There is at least one oligarch that is kind of a wild-card in this game, namely Kholomoisky, but he has been severely battered in the past few years and it is unclear how many resources he still has to throw around.
My feeling is, the second round will probably be Poroshenko vs Tymoshenko. If Poroshenko loses, he will declare that Russia had interfered in the election, cancel the results and rule by decree. The West will silently nod in approval.
>Over 10,000 terrorists gathered in Syria’s Idlib province – UN envoy There is a high concentration of foreign fighters in Syria's Idlib province, including an estimated 10,000 terrorists, UN Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura told reporters on Thursday. The diplomat said it would be better to set up humanitarian corridors to evacuate civilians than rush into a battle. The envoy called on Russia, Iran and Turkey to forestall a battle in Idlib which would affect millions of civilians and “could see both sides using chlorine as a chemical weapon,” Reuters reported. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday that terrorists have reportedly brought containers with chlorine to the town of Jisr al-Shughur for the staging of a chemical attack, which is sure to be blamed on Syrian government troops, TASS reports. “According to the information available, eight containers with chlorine and ammunition for a multiple launch rocket system to be filled with this chlorine were delivered on August 23 and 24 in the area of the Idlib de-escalation zone,” she said.

>US, UK and France ‘want to foil political process’ in Syria – Damascus The US, Britain and France want “to attack” Damascus with the aim of obstructing the political settlement process and helping Jabhat Al-Nusra terrorists, Syria’s Foreign Minister Walid Muallem said in Moscow on Thursday. “The US, UK and France are not happy with the failure of their plot in Syria, so they want to attack it from outside the UN Security Council in order to foil the political process, offer assistance to Jabhat Al-Nusra terrorist organization and prolong the crisis,” SANA quoted minister as saying. “Therefore, we have the legitimate right to defend ourselves and the aggressor states will bear the disastrous consequences due to their aggression,” Muallem added. The minister made the statement at a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. The top Russian diplomat said that the tasks related to eradicating terrorism from the Syrian territory are coming to an end and it’s time for work to rebuild the Syrian economy and restore stability to all its areas.
>27 killed, 100 wounded after days of clashes near Libyan capital – Health Ministry At least 27 people have been killed and 100 wounded during several days of fighting between rival militias near the Libyan capital, the Health Ministry said on Thursday. The clashes broke out on Monday in suburbs south of Tripoli, and continued into Wednesday evening after a truce collapsed. The fighting came to an end on Thursday after a ceasefire agreement was announced by officials from western areas, but it was unclear whether the two rival camps would continue to respect it, AFP reported. Fayez al-Sarraj, the leader of the internationally recognized Government of National Accord (GNA), has tasked forces from western and central regions of Libya to ensure that the rivals adhere to the ceasefire.

Imagine how productive the world would be if all Muslims were replaced with Anglicans/Jews. We'd be conquering the stars instead of staving off Arabs who rape children and dogs.
UK Man Picks Up N Korean Radio Signal, Gets Pack of Presents From Pyongyang
The parcel contained North Korean newspapers, magazines, a book by Kim Jong-Il, a personal note on the weather and even a program schedule for English radio broadcasts! And of course, as per shortwave tradition, the package included a so-called "QSL card," usually sent in acknowledgement of radio contact by the broadcasting station.
According to the Daily Mail, Heyburn received his reply from North Korea faster than many diplomats and world leaders, who have been left hanging by Pyongyang even on the most urgent of matters, sometimes receiving no reply at all.
