Germany is beautiful, but the last time I was there I didn't feel safe when I was in the grocery store. I didn't feel safe when I was sitting at a cafe waiting for a train.
And taking a train, which used to be the best way for travel is now unsafe.

I used to love visiting Stuttgart, Blaubeiron, Ulm. Now it's ruined.

German foreign exchange student came back for a visit today. She was cheerful, my mom randomly asks what the average life expectancy is for Germans. Should mention she is a doctor. She says it's about 83 for women, 81 for men. Then boldly proclaims in 20 years it will be 100 for everyone.
I asked, "You don't think that number is actually going to go down? With the violence and refugees and all?"
Mood totally changes. Gets the 1000 yard stare. Mumbles... "I don't know..."

Its a shame that all of their historic cities were destroyed in that war, only a few out of the way objects like castles and some smaller towns (ie Bamberg, Wolfenbuttel, Limburg, Quedlinburg) survived.
