>Syria condemns murder of leader of self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic Syria has condemned the murder of Aleksandr Zakharchenko, the leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, an official source at the Foreign Ministry told Sana news agency. Zakharchenko’s killing is “a clear attempt to undermine the process of peaceful political settlement in the Donbass area and the implementation of Minsk agreements,” the statement added. Zakharchenko was killed in an explosion that rocked a cafe in Donetsk city in eastern Ukraine on Friday. The improvised explosive device was planted inside the café, near the entrance.

>US Syria rep. to visit Turkey, Jordan, Israel & address Moscow’s tip on false-flag chemical attack Newly appointed US Special Representative for Syria Engagement, James Jeffrey, together with US Special Envoy for Syria, Joel Rayburn, will tour Israel, Jordan and Turkey on September 1-4, the State Department has announced. During their trip, the US diplomats will reassure Israel of America's support and “underscore that the United States will respond to any chemical weapons attack perpetrated by the Syrian regime.” The US officials will also touch upon Russia’s repeated warnings of a potential false-flag chemical attack to be staged by rebels in Syria’s Idlib, which the US State Department labeled “specious allegations.”

>Hundreds of Iraqis clash with security forces in Basra in protest over neglect, corruption Hundreds of Iraqi protesters tried to break into the provincial government headquarters in the southern oil hub of Basra on Friday to demand better public services and an end to pervasive corruption. No serious injuries were reported after minor clashes with riot police. Protests have swept cities in the long neglected south, Iraq’s Shiite Muslim heartland, over widespread electricity outages during the hot summer, a lack of jobs, proper government services and graft, AP said. Public anger is rising at a time when politicians are struggling to form a new government after an inconclusive parliamentary election in May. Iraq’s top Shiite cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani has expressed support for the protests.

>SYRIAN ARMY REPELS ISIS ATTACK NORTH OF AL-SUWAYDA On September 1, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) repelled an attack of ISIS fighters on its positions around the Hatil Dam north of the governorate of al-Suwayda, according to the al-Suwayda 24 blog.
>“Three personnel of the army were martyred and 13 others were wounded, they were transported to al-Suwayda’s hospitals, on the other side at least seven terrorists were killed,” a source in the SAA told the Syria-based blog.
The SAA captured the Hatil Dam earlier this week after heavy clashes with ISIS fighters. According to al-Suwayda 24, the dam is one of the very few water resources in the area of al-Safa, which explains the terrorist group attempt to recapture it.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that warplanes of the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) and the SAA artillery struck several positions and fortifications of ISIS in al-Safa. As a result, several members of the terrorist group were killed and injured.
Despite having a superior fire power, the SAA is still advancing slowly inside and around al-Safa in order to ensure the safety of around 30 civilian hostages, who were abducted by the terrorist group earlier this month.
>US ACTIONS EAST OF EUPHRATES ARE AIMED AT SPLITTING SYRIA
The creation of quasi-state local bodies on the eastern bank of the Euphrates by the US can be an attempt to split the country and is in contrary to decisions of the UN Security Council, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters at a news conference on August 30 following meeting with his Syrian counterpart Walid Muallem.
>“While being strongly opposed to the global community’s involvement in efforts to create conditions for refugees’ return to Syria’s territory controlled by the government, our American counterparts, at the same time, are actively restoring infrastructure on the eastern bank of the Euphrates river and even create quasi-state local government bodies there,” Lavrov said, according to the news agency TASS. “This gives rise to concern, this is fraught with attempts to split Syria, which is totally unacceptable and is a blatant violation of Security Council decisions, which has repeatedly demanded respect for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
Lavrov also pointed out that the US has kept its military presence in southeastern Syria establishing a military base near the inhabited community of al-Tanf.
Earlier, the Russian side repeatedly raised questions about what was happening at this military base pointing to the movement of terrorists, including ISIS members, through that region.
On August 30, Syrian Interior Ministry Hasan Maruf revealed that the Damascus government is preparing a first organized transition of refugees from the Rukban refugee camp, near the al-Tanf base, to their places of previous residence. >“An important issue for us is the presence of Syrian citizens at the Rukban camp. Currently, we are planning the first organized transition of our citizens to the places of pre-war residence,” Maruf said.

He also adressed rumors spread among the refugees that the Syrian government would persecute these people.
>“The rumors are baseless. They are a sign of prevocational activities of those opposing this peaceful initiative on returning the citizens to Syria,” he said.
On September 1, a booby-trapped car exploded near a protest tent in the Syrian city of Azaz near the border with Turkey, according to the Syrian news outlet Enab Baladi. The strategic city has been under the control of the Turkish-backed Euphrates Shield (ES) force since late 2016.
The pro-opposition news outlet said that dozens of civilians were protesting inside the tent against the local council of Azaz, which is accused of corruption and mismanagement.
According to local sources, only two civilians were killed in the explosion. However, the death toll is expected to raise in the upcoming hours as dozens of civilians were severely wounded.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet, but Syrian opposition activists believe that cells of ISIS or the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) may be behind it.

>FACEBOOK SAYS FORMER BRITISH AMBASSADOR CRAIG MURRAY IS “RUSSIAN BOT”, DELETES HIS POSTS FROM JULY 2017
Facebook has deleted all of my posts from July 2017 to last week because I am, apparently, a Russian Bot. For a while I could not add any new posts either, but we recently found a way around that, at least for now. To those of you tempted to say “So what?”, I would point out that over two thirds of visitors to my website arrive via my posting of the articles to Facebook and Twitter. Social media outlets like this blog, which offer an alternative to MSM propaganda, are hugely at the mercy of these corporate gatekeepers.
Facebook’s plunge into censorship is completely open and admitted, as is the fact it is operated for Facebook by the Atlantic Council – the extreme neo-con group part funded by NATO and whose board includes serial war criminal Henry Kissinger, Former CIA Heads Michael Hayden and Michael Morrell, and George Bush’s chief of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff, among a whole list of horrors.
>TALIBAN CAPTURES TWO CHECKPOINTS IN AFGHANISTAN’S FARYAB
On August 31, the Taliban captured two checkpoints in the district of Shirin Tagab in the northern province of Faryab following heavy clashes with the Afghan National Army (ANA) and the Afghan National Police (ANP), according to the Taliban news agency Voice of Jihad.
The Afghan group claimed that its fighters had killed two personnel of the ANA and the ANP and had injured three others during the attack. Furthermore, an armored vehicle was destroyed by Taliban fighters .
Voice of Jihad said that the attack in Shirin Tagab was a part of the Taliban’s spring offensive, codenamed “Operation al-Khandagh”, which was launched on April 25 in response to Washington’s decision to increase the US military presence in Afghanistan.
Earlier this week, Taliban fighters ambushed a large convoy of ANA in Faryab. The convoy was carrying between 350 and 400 Afghan soldiers who had fled from their positions in the district of Ghormach.
According to Afghan sources, hundreds of ANA soldiers fled their positions throughout Faryab when the Taliban captured the district center of Bilchiragh two weeks ago. These new attacks will likely further complicate the situation in the province and affected the morale of the remaining soldiers. southfront.org/taliban-captures-two-checkpoints-in-afghanistans-faryab/

>HOUTHI FIGHTERS STORM SEVERAL POSITIONS OF SAUDI-LED COALITION IN CENTRAL YEMEN
On August 31, the Houthis captured several key positions of the Saudi-led coalition and its Yemeni proxies in the district of Sirwah in the central province of Ma’rib after a successful rapid attack, according to the Yemeni al-Masirah TV.
During the attack, Houthi fighters destroyed an armored personnel carrier (APC) and two pickup trucks of the Saudi-led coalition with anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) and rocket-propelled grenades. Furthermore, the Houthis captured several anti-tank weapons, including a M79 Osa and a RPG-27, which were left behind by soldiers of the UAE military.
The attack in Sirwah is a significant blow to the Saudi-led coalition, which has been working to expand its control in central Yemeni since the beginning of this year.
