It's a cog. It represents industrialization and the socialist workers' revolution in Germany. It's the culmination of downtrodden humanity finally throwing off their shackles at the hands of materialists hellbent on turning them into inhuman insectoids.
World War 2 was a war for the future of humanity. It was to determine what the planet's economic and operational structure would look like going forward. Capitalism was the status quo - massive exploitation of the peasantry for the benefit of the neofeudal lords (who still exist). Communism attempted to buck the system by replacing who the feudal lords were, while further exploiting the peasantry. It was a false socialist revolution.
Nazi Germany was the real socialist revolution. The one Marx dreamed of. The one where the proletariat really did rise up and smash their oppressors and take over. Nazi Germany was Socialism for Humans, not insects. Capitalism for Humans, not insects.
I don't think Jow Forums yet fully understand what happened 70 years ago. Or that the stage was set by the prior 180 years.
You first must understand that Capitalism and Communism are two sides of the same coin. They are materialistic. They focus only on things and not people. They do not care about your family, your individual, your community. They do not care about your genetics, your sanity, your health. They only care about exploiting you to maximize resource consumption and production for the betterment of your lords. We are seeing that today with globalism. Globalism is the synthesis of capitalism with communism. It is what both of them aspire towards.
Industrialists in Capitalism, Bureaucrats in Communism, and both in Globalism. While you live in a hovel with 20 others, half of them insane, eating mealworms and riding public transport because of "global warming", your 'betters' dine and ride in luxury.
What we lost, 70 years ago, was Humanity.

It's actually a very funny point. I am uncertain what the actual flags for Rashidun, and two later successor caliphates were. But I thought they mostly identified with a solid color flag, usually black, differentiated by emirs' with their own additions.
Hell if most people look back, they used more the Star of Solomon (incorrectly David's star) for Islamic kingdoms than there was the crescent. While people can point back to some signs of crescents to time of Umar, it was mostly emir stylings rather than a central theme.
I think Ottoman empire was by de jure, the last caliphate. As it was so vast and powerful for its time. In the Arab world it was comparable to the Roman one that they probably hear less of in pre modern time. And everyone wanted that prestige. Hell, Indonesia,Malaysia, Pakistan, Central Asian-stans were never part of Ottoman empire, look at their flag.
