Are their middle eastern people lurking on Jow Forums? I have questions I'd like to ask but at the college I go to I always get called racist for being curious, and the students (mostly from Saudi Arabia) stick to themselves and don't really get into frank conversations in person.
I realize Jow Forums isn't the best place, but I don't know where else to get some questions answered.

I know some of this stuff I could probably Google and find out. But some of it isn't clear. And I'll start with what I think are the easier (and dumber) questions, if that's okay.
1) What is the red gingham head-wear? It seems to indicate some kind of civil servant position, but also appears to be desert and culture related. Is it, I dunno, just cooler to wear?
2) Hawking seems really popular in the middle east. Anyone know why? And I guess related but just as stupid a question, cheetahs as pets? Can you really have Cheetahs as pets?
3) A more politically charged question, I guess: why did the hijab ever become popular? I get modesty, I do, but some of the stuff you see like burkas seem to be counter productive to finding out if someone is attractive or reading their facial expressions. Why has that been as popular as long as it as and why the hell does it matter?
4) A more offensive question than above: is the keeping kids as sex slaves thing true??? Bacha Bazi, I think it's called. If it's true, why does that exist??
5) Why does every middle eastern guy (at least it seems like) have such a problem admitting they don't know something? The worst freakouts about being wrong in my classes have come from middle-eastern guys who lose their cool. Why does it at least seem like that?

Loose clothing like that keeps the sun and sand off, so yes it is desert related(try going in the desert or any sun really without a hat at least, you'll be burnt to fuck). The specific designs denote family ties or such.

1- Arab men have been wearing it long ago, it's just a different color now, think old Jerusalem or how Joseph dressed
2- Not really. He's an amazing person and deserves to be well known but most would just mention him (it they even know him) in debates about whether he would go to heaven or not.
3- Middle eastern women have been wearing some sort of head covering for a long time even in Pre-Islamic Arabia. Islam made a few tweaks and culture took on from there. Women in the UAE wear a special face covering that looks like an eagle's beak (we call it Burga) but it's more cultural than for modesty.
4- Depends where in the middle east. Bacha bazi exists in poo lands because they are very sexually active and dont get sex that often so they're willing to fuck anything that moves or doesn't. No slaves anymore, but slavery was prominent.
5- This is true for both Arabs and Persians (Turks as well). Admitting ignorance makes you feel lower than others and ever since the Islamic Golden age ended, muslims and arabs specifically wanted to do anything to hold their pride. This explains the immediate and very poorly planned attack they did against Israel back in the 60s that ended up failing miserably
