Hey OP, it must suck to be an Israeli.
Levi Reed
ya i guess but one would be a pretty silly traditionalist
Charles Perez
Yes but conservatism is horrible anyways.
Gabriel Martinez
>Atheist be conservative
Most atheists ARE conservative, but they're smart enough to keep their mouths shut about it.
Tyler Clark
>One cannot understand that humans have natural biological drives and purposely going against those drives is unhealthy
William Howard
Why couldn't I be a conservative? It's similar to saying "LGBT can't be conservative" or "pro-choice can't be conservative", etc. Just because you don't agree with one of the main tenants, doesn't mean you're not one. There are many democrats that are FOR gun rights, for example.
Trying to determine someone's political leanings by a single view that they hold is about as retarded as... pic related.
Wyatt Clark
so natural law atheist?
Luke Edwards
What are conservative values that atheists can't or usually shouldn't have?
Is this what you think conservatism is? Regardless there's plenty of tradition that isn't religious.
Ethan Wright
>What are conservative values that atheists can't or usually shouldn't have?
The religious ones. Like "marriage is between a man and a woman" (personal opinion on this: government shouldn't have its hand in marriage at all.. don't give a fuck if it's man/woman, man/man, woman/woman, man/woman/man, etc).
Jayden Russell
Sort of depends on how you define conservative. On a college campus, a classical liberal would be probably considered conservative even when he is nothing of the sort. Conservatism has more grounding in traditions and such, so for someone who rejects tradition, the number of actual conservative atheists would have to be very small.
Caleb Butler
Conservative equals small government, freedom of expression and religion, strong economy and loose restrictions... why would an atheist not qualify as a conservative? Not believing in a higher being really isn't a political identity.
Cooper Scott
There are atheist who also believe marriage should be between a man and woman because homosexuality cannot produce kids which is what marriage is designed to protect. Morals are not strictly religious. You do realize a bunch of churches advocate for gay marriage as well.
Jordan Miller
The word "like" indicates that the following text is an example. There are many that could be made. None of them are universal to atheists.. just as none of those same examples are universal to conservatives. I'm happy to have explained to you what "example" means, though. I'm sure you'll remember this for the next time you're confronted with an example.
Ayden Cox
yes, but most atheists are not atheists by their own will, but because of jewish propaganda.
Zachary Stewart
>The religious ones. Like "marriage is between a man and a woman"
I don't recall a single marriage in the bible like that. Abraham marries his sister then whores her out to the Pharaoh, Jacob fucks sluts in the road, the Levi tosses his wife out the door to be fucked to death by a mob. It was always polygamy, bride price, sexual slavery and child abuse in the old testament.
Sebastian Hernandez
>(personal opinion on this: government shouldn't have its hand in marriage at all
Marriages are legal and have always been the domain of civil authority. Churches failed to co-opt them. Now churches are caving in to same sex marriage. So fuck religion.
Chase Clark
>Abraham marries his sister
So is Abraham supposed to be female, or is "sister" another word for "male" where you come from? None of the examples you mention indicate a marriage between two people of the same gender. Also, just so you know.. I'm atheist. It's not my argument.
Jordan Fisher
>Needing to attach "Atheist" to a political view
I don't give a fuck what they are, they're fucking niggers.
Brayden Lee
Except that whole "marriage license" thing that you MUST get through the government... right? A few years ago, the governments at state level could refuse a marriage license to those who were the same sex. They can't today.
Sebastian Gonzalez

Conservatism isn't really about religion though. Not dismissing your answer, it's correct and an example I asked for. It's more that religion is attractive to conservatives, thus a lot of conservatives tend to be religious.

Regardless how good this model in link related is, I think liberalism/conservatism are better described as personality types because you can distill values into very low level instincts. No single issue stuff here, no issues that are specific to time and place. Empathy, Fairness, Loyalty, Authority, and Purity have been with humans and will be with humans for a long time, and they seem to effectively predict where someone lands in political ideology.
If I had to stretch why atheists seem to be politically divided left, maybe people have a hard time justifying purity without religion. "Thats disgusting and I don't want to see it" doesn't cut it these days unfortunately.
Lincoln Perez
>Morals are not strictly religious.
Morals have always been created by men. Theists pretend their man-made morals were "inspired by sky fairies" but it's obvious they weren't.
Gabriel Roberts
You think those are standards to adhere too? Do you have a room temperature IQ or something?
Nicholas Jones
>anyone can subvert a platform
solid point
Carson Butler
>None of the examples you mention indicate a marriage between two people of the same gender.
Who you love, who you want to marry is none of the gubmint's fucking bidness.
Carter Long
>You think those are standards to adhere too?
Of course not. I'm an atheist.
Brayden King
>Who you love, who you want to marry is none of the gubmint's fucking bidness.
Sounds very similar to what I said here:
>(personal opinion on this: government shouldn't have its hand in marriage at all.. don't give a fuck if it's man/woman, man/man, woman/woman, man/woman/man, etc)
