Even though it's edgy opinion, human society develops faster than humans themselves, there hasn't been any major life threatening turmoil in the civilization centers in past 70+ years and look where it got us. Biggest threat in today's first world is somebody with different opinions.

We were victors in two world wars, but we lost in peace treates. First time because we were dumb as rocks second time because British willed it. So it's really not benefitial for us to fight in another one. We just die in vain.
Wars speed technological progress sure, but wars today are far too destructive. There are too many negatives and few positives.
