I used to live in Chicago. I was 19/20 when I lived there, and it chewed me up and spit me out. It was brutal. I didn't know anyone, and it was one of the most alienating experiences of my whole life. Like solitary confinement, except you're surrounded by people who ignore you instead of walls. It's a beautiful city in so many ways. Beautiful in it's ugliness I guess. There's something about Chicago that no other large city has. Chicagoan here... good map but the real numbers make for a different demographic picture, 2010 census has the city of chi proper at 45% white, thats not counting the burbs where most of the population lives and where most white families are.
