I just love the books and the lore. I also like my Imperial guard and custodian army. The story is cool to you actual get to read from the fascist hero's perspectives as the honourable good guy if you read many of the books from the space marine for examples view as he fights evil daemons and traitors unlike in other series where they would be demonised

And wh40k is being more and more pozed with each passing year. Sadly old lore is being rewritten to appease the bugmen, faggots and women.

Try the Gaunts Ghosts series. Its pretty good and kinda like the Sharpes series but WH40k. Its also more grounded and dosent overload you with scifi-magic stuff from the start.

you start with watching dozens of hours of lore videos, each one able to wet your pants by the sheer amount of gore, war, manliness and utter hopelessness/despair - yet they know no fear and keep fighting.

Find a book written about them. I don't recommend starting with the Horus Heresy series, as it requires a lot of knowledge about the lore ahead of time. But you should read those eventually.

30k is Horus Heresy and an important part of the history of 40k. Its only fleshed out in books tough.

Go with the lorevideos from Luetin09. They are very well made with pictures and are good to watch. Archwarhammer knows lots about the lore but its a chore to listen to him.

I like 40k because I grew up on Star Trek, where all problems can be solved with technology and diplomacy, whereas in 40k technology is progressing at a snails pace for the past 10,000 years and all aliens are openly hostile to one another. It's the anti-Trek, and I love them both.

Salamanders were always black black though. There's zero mention of race in any of the books and humanity has gone to the point where so much breeding has gone on and there's been so much genetic drift between worlds that there technically should be hundreds of races, but that doesn't matter because everyone is still human (except filthy mutants).

The best course of actions is to either read some books about the game or better yet find some people to play. Your local game store should have some wh40k players that will surely help you out with the basics. Also, thanks to how incredibly Jewish Games Workshop (the publisher of wh40k) is it's an expensive as fuck hobby.
It's not going to get any better I'm afraid. Novels centered around Ciaphas Cain HERO OF THE IMPERIUM really are great. It's a wh40k spin on Flashman Gordon. Sometimes silly and less grimdark than usual but nonetheless still great. Eisenhor trilogy, Gaunts Ghosts are also pretty good.

Ork technology is awesome cause it works only because the orks believe it works and their psychic field makes it so. They literally meme their weapons functional. Used by any other race it would just fall apart.
