I was on it for about 7 months (age 24) and a more recent stint for about 3 months a year after quitting. There is a lot of myths about the drug from both the pro and anti crowds.

Finasteride worked for me, my hair wasn't only early stage thinning but any shedding stopped and I regrew hair on the hairline I didn't even realise I lost... That said there were side effects, libido disappeared, I had a small bout of almost total ED early on but things went back to normal after about a month on fin.

The side effect which scared me off the drug both times was not the ED, it was the brain fog, I was just having mental blanks where I never would, I couldn't remember anything and I was constantly confused. Probably dropped like 30 IQ points on the drug, took a few weeks after weening off to start to improve on this.

Worth noting that I was quartering 5mg tablets to save money so that's 1.25mg doses daily, way too much. If you try fin go with just like .125 or .25 and you'll still see results

Just use minoxidil, only consider fin if minoxidil doesn't at least halt the receding. In addition to minoxidil you can try alpecin, but there's a shampoo and tonic but you only need one or the other, both would just be more effective. But much more effective is sebazole it's an anti-dandruff shampoo that happens to help with mpb. If you have to go either alpecin or Sebazole definitely go with sebazole but both are pretty useless without minox. Minox is by far the most effective non-fin treatment. Also look into dermaneedling for hair loss
