Japanese soldiers were often given orders to fight a gorilla war until they were relieved by command. Because the chain of command was wiped out during the war many Japanese soldiers kept fighting for years. Hap Soldiers were still being found alive in the tunnels of iwo jima till 1948. One soldier didn't come out of the woods until 1976, it became a common plot of tv shows in the 70s

The us not only knew pearl harbor was gonna happen they sold Japan all the raw materials to build their planes and ships, the maine export of cities like Boston an new York in the 30s was scrap metal they sold to the japanese, the main reason the war needed to happen was the USA was legitimately close to having a civil war post depression. The war was what fixed our economy and allowed people to survive

The US wanted unconditional surrender and the nukes did little toward that end. Only the threat of the USSR entering Japan caused the surrender to the US.
