Yeah regarding democracy vs. dictatorship. A democracy can always lead to a dictatorship, and vice versa, as history has obviously taught us. I have nothing against a benevolent dictator, but the "power corrupts" thing is true, I think. I don't think democracy has brought us closer to ruin, you and I are much better fed and provided for than every single generation before us. You could argue that dictatorship did not work because of the whole world against us, but well...it is this world we live in, and Realpolitik is a thing.

Our living standards are high because of technological process that has its roots in evolution and a sort of eugenics program that happened in northern europe over the past centuries. It'd arguably be even higher if our government didn't keep importing the 3rd world but that's the nature of democracies, they seek to expand the franchise (landowners->all males->all adults->foreigners, a process you can see all over the west). Also living standards plummeted during democratic Weimar compared to Wilhelmine times, not just because of the war but because of the influence international capital can gain in such a system.

There was also nobody above Stalin and Mao, so this is no guarantee to success. As far as I know, national socialism in germany was also deeply intertwined with capitalism in germany, Parteibonzen was a common term. Ah, my main point was that what is happening now is going to happen with Democracy all the time. Anyway, yes our living standards are linked to processes that were set in motion hundreds of years ago, not democracy. Most of our politician's couldn't manage a daycare. Similarly, introducing democracy to Africa wont help the nogs.

I'm not even sure about that. I would really like to see what would happen if there would be no more development aid. I'm sure the problem would sort itself out, and at the end, we might have a civiliced africa in 200 years. But again, we will never know, in this globalized world there is no chance to just leave africa be.
If it IS in fact to happen with democracy, then every democracy should have a plan for it. Oh wait. We have. The people go protest and take it to the streets. The idea is, that everyone is in fact a somewhat nice guy and just wants to get along, so out of all the protests will come a better, more robust democracy, that will satisfy more people than before.
We see how well that works in Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Ukraine, you name it. I'm not sure what to make of it. I want to cite Mike Patton: "Are people REALLY that stupid? I guess they are." And as stupid as it sounds, you can only counter it with education. Not "political" education, but sound and solid education. Unfortunately we gave that up, too. So yes, it is time people take it to the streets. Which they do. To hopefully build a better democracy, and not a new dictatorship. Because in a dictatorship, most people don't get what they want.

uhm... i understand that viewpoint, but disagree. look: 1. higher ups will pay themselves after taxes what they believe to be worth, regardless wheter there is a progressive or flat taxation. they will always get more. 2. if you have flat taxation that means there is a lower buerocratic burden on all companies, which means a better economy and higher wages for the everage worker.
