I think it would depend on the nature of the soil. Too much clay and the vinegar with not pass through. Digging might be necessary if the soil is to compact. Do you have any friends to help you dig?

You would probably have to dig far enough down to reach the top of the stone, then you could pour the vinager down the sides so they mess up the images and words, but traces would still remain as the majority of the stuff gets absorbed into the dry soil and dirt.

The plus side is the dirts probably not compacted like the surrounding dirt and could be dug up quite easily.

But enough time goes by, the ground settles and it becomes indistinguishable from the surrounding dirt. And I don't think anyone bothered to take exact coordinates of its location down to the meter.
