They have to pay someone for that meal, someone to either cultivate the vegetables or raise the livestock and there has to be people that run the logistics to make sure those products get to where it needs to go and have people drive it to where it needs to go and someone to prepare that food as well so someone can go ahead and serve it.

All of those people aren't starving because they are working. Will they be able to afford 500 dollar meals? No, but they sure aren't subsisting on a diet of rice everyday as well.

Watches retain their value so they can be seen as an investment. I knew someone who flipped very expensive collectible watches with the added bonus of having a different expensive timepiece to each month or so.
