Mussolini was right: we should have finished the job with Britain and its empire first, seizing control of the oil fields in Mesopotamia, and only then worried about whatever else.
Britain was the natural aircraft carried from which the USA ruined Europe. Had Britain been defeated and Edward VIII been put in charge then the Axis and its unofficial allies (Sweden, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, etc) would have basically controlled all the land, seas, and airspace from Cape North to Cape Agulhas. The Lebensraum could have waited.
