We should have the first amendment amended. As of now it is unlawful for the government to censor speech, but the gatekeepers of knowledge and communication are private companies protected by US law, which makes the first amendment in 2018 almost inconsequential.
It should be reworded to extend to literally no one can censor any speech based on religion, sex, etc etc. I would like to believe that the free market will compensate, but the market currently isn’t free and the companies that exist essentially monopolize the streams of information available to the public.
