I am in a similar situation. I am Foster parent to two nieces and a nephew from my wife's side of the family. They have Irish roots which means they come from awful stock, but still have the potential to change.

I like raising these kids and really don't spend much time on it. I tell them directly that if they decide they don't want to live here they don't have to. I also tell them that everyone is expected to have a job and pay their bills in my house. For them this means going to school and doing homework. If they don't want to do that then they get evicted just like in real life.

I have had almost no problems. Quite frankly they could start doing drugs and start engaging in risky behavior and it's no threat to me if the people never come to my home. It's pretty relaxing and easy when you aren't worried about the kids.

I have one biological so far, more coming. I did it initially because I knew the kids weren't awful and I wasn't working at the time.

I spend less than an hour per day on the children. I already cook meals, vacuum, and otherwise maintain the house. Cooking and cleaning for 5 doesn't take any longer than doing it for one.

Raising three children takes less of my time and energy than playing two games of DotA per day. I make a can make a meaningful impact without having to do much of anything.
