People were depressed and constantly on edge, civil strife everywhere and oppressive secret police torturing millions each week. How did people survive this shit?
How bad was life behind the iron curtain?
Free food, school, and healthcare. It was pretty lit in that regard.
Iddy Biddy Ruskie Tiddies
Gib pls
>t. 15yo californian
But you had to queue for hours for a sack of potatoes.
Fuck off.
And what is Russia today? No social services. Secret police go after you if you say anything bad about Dear Leader Putin. Old people miss the USSR.
I'm 19!
Yeah have fun having 0 jobs and everybody in your country fucking off to UK to clean toilets.
Nope, it's start immediatly after "curtains" fall.
Ask a Polish person what they think of it.
So you didnt experience communism
Kys
People like you should tour Eastern Europe. You'd drop that Soviet meme flag really fast.
That's not my experience. If you actually put effort into self-improvement you lead a comfy life. Only a parasite like you would take employment as a right. To get value from an employer you need to be valuable as an employee.
Those who run off to UK are the worst of our kind.
Neither did you toothpaste nigger. I wish I did, because I wouldn't have to pay $30,000 for a college degree or wait 10 years to buy a house like in the US.
Polish people are retards, they can't make anything work. Today it's just as shit as ever, historically they're the cumdumpster of European powers who use them like a $5 whore. You could give Poland $10 trillion and they'd squander it in a year and be begging for money from Germany and the US to bail them out. Hitler had the right idea regarding the Poles.
>Free food
There was little of It,low quality and variety and people starved
>School
Go to school and still have mediocre living conditions while in the thumb of a communist dictatorship
>healthcare
Healthcare could have been worse,it was good enough but it doesn't aid much when living in that oppressive poor shithole
>It was pretty lit in that regard.
No.
I'd see the shitholes post-capitalist transition, yes.
Capitalism did that, privatization did that.
You live in portugal, what the fuck do you know?
It's another communist hating eastern europe episode. I'm glad we kicked you parasites out.
Communism was too good for you people. The Chinese know how to make it work, you don't because you're a bunch of savage drunkard monkeys.
I believe that the main reason of Soviet Union fall is that it started to lack vodca, according with Brazilian correspondents in Moscow. There was only some brandy available.
>Neither did you toothpaste nigger. I wish I did, because I wouldn't have to pay $30,000 for a college degree or wait 10 years to buy a house like in the US.
You are fucking delusional. USSR didn't offer people houses, you were lucky if you ended up in a shitty commieblock flat living in a tiny apartment.
I had free college in Europe, you don't need to live in the USSR to get that.
Fucking zoomer I hope you get deeply in debt studying some marxist bullshit and end up at starbucks
I did in 2005 and I was BTFO'd when I visit KGB museum in Vilnius and Museum of Warsaw Uprising.
Don't start in Russia, otherwise he'll think that everything started in 1941 and Soviet Union were 100% heroes
>polish people are retards, they cant make anything work
>waaah, i have to pay for degree or a house in my country
Seems we have it figured out unlike you fag. Educate yourself and get a job, stop whining like a woman.
(((((((((( "free" ))))))))))
>Black Lives Matter
>oppressive police
How many times have you used that phrase between now and your last armed robbery?
Here’s a thought. What if you paid the $30,000 down on the house and then got a free trade degree. I mean. The retirement isn’t as great as the other one, but you’ll be living really comfy in your 20s through 40s.
everything is rationed
no matter how hard working you are, you'd still live like the lowest common denominator
my father did a soviet tour in the late 70s and had many stories to tell about the misery
Commie just can't accept that he is worthless. Surprise! You will have nothing if you can't offer anything in return.
That means he'd actually have to work for a living, commie larpers hate that.
>How did people survive this shit?
This is Moscow - you can imagine how much worse things ere in rural areas.
it wasnt that bad, I was only a small child and the soviets went to shit in the 80s but there were many good things
the main problems were lack of ideological freedom and inefficiency of goverment-planned economy (thats why socialism is bound to fail)
there was shortage of consumer goods and even quality food
Are the Shi'ites really sick of Iran's shit now?
Was better in the rural areas in a way because everyone had their own garden where they grew vegetables and potatoes
Hu, you mean little dick alcoholic Commies like you? Even with 50 million slaves, you're the poorest poop on Earth, and the sickest shit in History of mankind. But I bet it makes you smile like a midget bitch.
Even Yezhov figured out and became Obama.
From what I've read, it depended a lot on the specific country and time, but generally life was more straightforward but also not nearly as luxurious as middle class life in the West. Everyone had housing, food, a job, and access to services like education. At the same time, housing spaces were quite small by Western standards, food wasn't quite as varied as it was for middle class Westerners, and because of poor prioritization by the government jobs were often unproductive and served only to keep people busy.
This.
Father in law was actually in "the party" because was the only way to legally get ahead. He says the fact that there were lots of jobs and vacation made it better than today.
yes
The Chinese are almost hyper-capitalists, the "Party" siphons the fruits of their explosive growth for big military and political sticks
This is after soviet union collapse. Im not a gommie but dont give the libshits ammo with retarded posts plox.
Commie is gone. Just a slide thread.
Here's what my grandpa told me. If you weren't connected with some government bureaucrat it was fucking hell. Mass starvation, lots of crime, living in commieblocks, most jobs were hard labor etc. The "free" services were a meme too. Healthcare was a main example this. Medicine would be allocated at about 70% to the bureaucrats and their people while the remaining 30% would be distributed among the rest of the population even if said population outnumbered the bureaucrats 10-1. My grandma, who was a nurse, said sometimes they would dilute vaccines and liquid medications with water. They described a pretty rough life I don't think the average westerner can comprehend it. It's sad that commies, like the one ITT, fall for soviet propaganda, it's generally people like that who get shipped to the Gulags first.
Read this.
Then you say me.
theatlantic.com
sounds comfy to be quite honest with you.
western materialism can go fuck itself in my opinion.
Winrar. Whats kinda sad is that the boomers there had a opposite timeline of the boomers here. Instead of getting richer, as soon as they hit 25-30 the economy collapsed and left them destitute.
ahhah, this must be a joke right?? retard or born after soviet union
>inb4 a foreigner dumps exyu behind the iron curtain
>inb4 some dumb yugo youth does the same
It's a slide thread. He is long gone.
the USSR was fantastic and only failed because of western agression. Because capitalism is inherently imperialist it has its military power built in, whereas a socialist state must make sacrifices to fund a military because it does not profit from killing other people the way capitalism does.
The pressure of this resulted in the USSR compromising its socialist ideas to compete, which opened the door for CIA undermining and corruption within the political caste to finally bring the thing down through bribery
>china knows how to socialism
lel
Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, and East Germany could be sort of comfy as long as you didn't get on the wrong side of the police.
>How bad was life behind the iron curtain?
It was very similar to modern day America but without all the fag and molester stuff Americans hold so dear
I should also have mentioned that even if you were well connected, your lifestyle was still not comparable to the western middleclass.
This is true-ish depending where you were in ussr. Belarussian ssr was pretty advanced as compared to azerbaijani ssr etc.
Kinda funny how even under communism, where shitskins are its worse.
You're a retard. An ignorant, dangerous retard. Estonia is a fantastic country considering what Russia left here. They ruined a nation that was already growing fast after the first independence period. Stop and think why when the vast majority (99.99%) of local Russians who were assisted to leave Estonia to go back to Russia decided to stay.
there go my hopes and prayers
>using anime to prove gommunism
Autism confirmed
40s, 50s - heavy political repression but also industrialization of countries to repair war damages
60s - further industrialization after destalinization, further economic growth and improvement of life
70s - communist economic model based on investing in heavy industry begins to show major weakness, because there's no light industry and consumption involved in the economic model, and no real competition which would allow for more sophisticated goods to be produced for consumption and exports (which was designed for war purposes, because communists were supposed to conquer the West)
1980s - lost decade, even meat was hard to find, there was sometimes only vinegar in store shelves
1990s - absolutely brutal economic transition under the auspices of USSR, USA and Western Europe. Lots of companies were shattered for no good reason, to destroy economic links between COMECON countries, unemployment skyrocketed to 2-digits, people became relatively impoverished
After that it was Western corporations who had to fill the investment void and reorient former COMECON countries, to serve Western interests
Poland used to export things to COMECON countries, now polish export is 25% Germany and 70% of export from Poland is produced by foreign-owned industry. Poland also for some 20+ years had a 2-digit unemployment rate, which was the result of brutal economic transition, which resulted in some 2-3 million Poles emmigrating from Poland in 21. century, making it the biggest emmigration of all times
Another one appears. Like a fly drawn by shit.
>USSR was fantastic
Are you brain damaged? Where do you live? Ask any post communist country what their experience of communism was. You are probably some sheltered fag who cant accept his lack of value on the job market.
if you are not old enough to recognize this picture you are not old enough to be in this conversation
Better than it is to live in most western european nations today. Look at when fertility rates dropped off a cliff in these countries: when they joined "the west"
Western liberalism is cancer, and compared to it even communism is better. There is nothing more depressing than living in a country that imports subhumans from all over the world to victimise you and your children.
>Not watching based Parenti
> Food
> free
Try like NO FOOD !!!!
You'd go in a butcher shoip and all you could buy was chicken CLAWS and cow BONES without any meat on them.
I kid you fucking not. .
>free food
>be communist
>starve
And things got much worse for the Russians in that decade of being opened up to mutts and their "western liberal democracy"
I visited Budapest 2 years ago. They absolutely despise communism there.
Soviet education was seriously good, better than it is now, old school professors are still the best. Healthcare was supbar, very underfunded with shortage of professionals. Housing been awlay s an issue, people had to live with grandparents or in communal apartments shared between few families. You couldnt buy anything but you had to serve for organization or military to get your turn in being granted an apartment (ie my dad had served as a navv officer in the north to get apartment)
Yes i remember my father in law said he having to use his party position to get beef and herring for new year dinner.
Most people had chickens at dacha tho.
>B9294A4A-D15C-4817-B06D-A
CIA plz
Did he end up getting to keep apartment after collapse?
>How did people survive this shit?
It wasn't hard to survive, because everything is exaggerated by 100 times by western propaganda.
Collapse of communist system was much more harder to survive, just check statistics.
>communism in eastern europe brought bettering of life conditions
Holy fucking kek. It's like communism rebuilt our country, not labour of our people. Fuck outta here.
Hows the weather in Berkeley?
My grill is from Lithuania, her dad was in the Red Army and both mother and father in the young pioneers.
They are nostalgic for it, especially her dad rather than mother. He still watches news in Russian only and now loves Putin. Her grandparents were / are farmers. A Soviet commissar came to their farm once and said that his farm needed to be more productive and that a new state provided tractor would improve his productivity, he told the Russian dude to Idi na hoi and never got the tractor topkek.
>Soviet education was seriously good, better than it is now, old school professors are still the best
like everywhere...
>They absolutely despise communism there
They despise communism, because communism is against nationalistic cult of strength, which is represented by Jobbik and similar parties
Anticommunists are often white trash meatheads, who model themselves after the military and venerate political violence. Jobbik in Hungary is a great example of this, also Kotleba in Slovakia
This. Most families survived on food from rural relatives. This practice still exists. You still get your eggs, vegetables, chicken meat from rural relatives if you want to save money.
In the cities it was harder, because you could not grow anything there.
Fuck off commie larper, go without food for a months and you will have communism.
He's beyond arguments, just a brain dead larper antifucker.
I'm glad, too.
Never mind, they don't understand that nothing is for free.
It's probably to enable the divide and conquer policy for those who can't proxy. Memeflags should be shoa'd.
It wasn't comfy, it was just less shit.
Kek, we also had jokes about Yeltsin and communism in general.
>It's like communism rebuilt our country, not labour of our people
Communists created our biggest companies (KGHM, Orlen, LOTOS, PKO BP, PZU) and in 1960s or 1970s we were maybe top15 exporters in the world, in 1966 1000 schools were opened for the 1000th anniversary of "creation" of Poland. Don't be so retardedly one sided, communists had terrible vices and ideas, but they did a lot of good
People in USSR didn't give a fuck about goverment about secret police and they was no depressed about all this shit with dictatorship. . Thye were happy to buy stuff because it was not than easy. They liked to make a families, liked to work and like liked to live like elsewhere on earth. Cremlin and governement was so far away from regular soviet person.
brainlet commie
hikikomarxism will usher in the autistocracy which will finally see global socialism.
The problem with 'muh memories' is it mostly comes from a post-stalin time where the USSR became imperialist and started siphoning off the wealth of other soviet states to fund the cold war. During these times conditions were good in some places and bad in others.
Q: Which is more useful – newspapers or television? A: Newspapers, of course. You can't wrap herring in a TV. (Variation: "You can't wipe your ass with a TV" – a reference to the shortage of toilet paper in USSR, which forced people to use newspapers instead.)
An old woman asks her granddaughter: "Granddaughter, please explain Communism to me. How will people live under it? They probably teach you all about it in school." "Of course they do, Granny. When we reach Communism, the shops will be full – there'll be butter, and meat, and sausage … you'll be able to go and buy anything you want..." "Ah!" exclaimed the old woman joyfully. "Just like it was under the Tsar!"
A man walks into a shop and asks, "You wouldn't happen to have fish, would you?". The shop assistant replies, "You've got it wrong – ours is a butcher's shop: we wouldn't happen to have meat. You're looking for the fish shop across the road. There they wouldn't happen to have fish!"
"What happens if Soviet socialism comes to Saudi Arabia? First five years, nothing; then a shortage of oil." (Variation: "...; then a shortage of sand.")
"Dad, can I have the car keys?" / "OK, but don't lose them. We will get the car in only seven years!"
"I want to sign up for the waiting list for a car. How long is it?" / "Precisely ten years from today." / "Morning or evening?" / "Why, what difference does it make?" / "The plumber's due in the morning".
There was no free food and the free healthcare part is just a shit-tier universal healthcare standard funded by taxes and meagre wages for personnel + the better medics were sent to 3rd world "comrades" leaving us with people who give you aspirin and tell you to fuck off.
No shit. If you govern a country you are going to set up it's basic infrastructure. It just so happened that we were governed by communism at the time. We wisened up and dropped it the first chance we got. Compare commie Poland and todays Poland. I prefer the latter.
Still Jobbik aligned with the post-commie parties in the last elections, they are almost worthless now after this stunt.
To be fair, even left wing voters hate communism, there is no Antifa or similar here, the Soros paid shills never agitate for communism, they are pathetic EU worshippers.
The only party that shills for the pre-1989 system is the Labor Party (Munkáspárt), but they are useless meme, get less than 1% in polls.
Where do you live? What is your experience of communism except for reading propaganda pieces?
It's not a joke. He came to our country and cried over a grocery store in middle of nowhere Texas because he didn't believe ALL the US grocery stores had food. He thought that we just had good propaganda. Wrote in his autobiography about that day. It broke him. That picture should be more important than any Berlin Wall picture.
Poland is a exception to many rules of European countries (both East and West)
I'd advise caution in the future, decides your allies wisely
>Compare commie Poland and todays Poland. I prefer the latter
I prefer the latter too, though serious mistakes were made in the process, like selling a lot of our market to Western corps and not addressing demographics
>choosing a degree not worth 30k
>thinks communism would have supported his shitty non contribution to society
>19
ugh the stupid burns worse than your future barista job will.
>the shortage of toilet paper in USSR
Confirmed.
Oldfag here, I went to the USSR in 1986, there was no toilet paper even in the tourist hotels. Pieces of Pravda were supplied or sometimes they had that terrible shiny shit.
Overall it was clearly heading for collapse, a low level depression hung everywhere, and everybody was drunk all day. The anti-vodka drive was starting so some people tried to hide it but most didn't give a fuck. I've never been so drunk in my life.
Same with communism, you pathetic nigger faggot, only far far worse.
ah that wall that the East Germans regret knocking down, the same East Germans that vote socialist?
Fertility rate were already bad even before 1989. The last time we had a baby boom was in the 1950s.
Ah yes, the mighty HUNGARY!
Still better than communism rule. Capitalism isn't all gold, but communism is fucking rotten.
Only good thing was absence of the internet and that it was much easier to get a good woman.
It really wasn't.
This. Exchanged one crap for another.
Also teenage westerners praising commies is the most pathetic thing on this very planet.
>Free food, school, and healthcare. It was pretty lit in that regard.
Ahahahahahahaha.
I live in california :^)
The only communist propaganda ive read is anti-communist propaganda. I have in fact listened to old time radio programs such as 'i was a communist for the fbi'. In the US you have nothing but anti communist propoganda. I would hope, presuming you are actually versed in communism as you claim, that you do not mistake liberal welfare states for communism, and arent going to make the obvious joke available to you.
>there is no Antifa or similar here, the Soros paid shills never agitate for communism, they are pathetic EU worshippers.
>The only party that shills for the pre-1989 system is the Labor Party (Munkáspárt), but they are useless meme, get less than 1% in polls
Yes, but this was my point. Eastern Europe isn't christian anymore, but also not leftist, so it takes a kind of third choice, which is a romanticized nationalistic cult of strength and political violence which gives people strong idealistic stimulus, gives them a sense of adventure and makes them detached from ordinary and boring routine of every day life in their shitty countries. I think it's the strongest in Hungary, but maybe it will grow stronger in other countries too
Why exactly do you seek political change to such an extreme ideology? Are you not content with current state of the matters? Why are you sad? Can't find a job? Maybe jealous of people more well off than you?
