What's the deal with Gen Xers?

All I ever hear is talk about Boomers, Zoomers, and Millenials. But, weirdly, I don't hear ANYTHING about Gen Xers. Why is that? Why are they just this weird generation that seemed to slip out of everyone's minds even though they're responsible for the creation of zoomers and even some Millenials? Are they just the generation that's not responsible for doing much other than just existing?

Fucking newfags, Lemme break it down for you. First X'ers are boomers. Second, we were patient zero for the mind virus currently infecting the western world. Some have broken thier programming but most remained entwined in the matrix.

Gen X here, born in 1970. I'll throw out the main factors:

1) We the smallest "cohort," which is a sociological way of saying that our generation wasn't that large, population-wise. Advertisers ignore us because there are more Boomers and more Millennials, so why not target them?

2) Watched our hippie parents (Boomers) turn into "just say no" androids and yuppies, which left us amazingly cynical and disdainful of politics -- we know first-hand how people aren't serious about their beliefs.

3) We are a curiously shell-shocked and traumatized generation. This requires a lot more backstory, Essentially, we were terrified. Mostly of nuclear war, got really pounded into us that we were all going to die in searing flashes of Russian missiles. Throw in some acid rain, killer bees, Club of Rome business about overpopulation and you're almost there. Now, imagine you're twelve and suddenly you find out that SEX IS DEATH. Your parents, the worst things that could happen to them were herpes and an abortion. You were thinking about free love and having the kind of carefree fun the Boomers did, but now getting laid means you die. Remember, no antiretrovirals, no good studies on how communicable AIDS was, etc.

So you get this small group of people who don't believe in politics and who have never quite stopped waiting for the other shoe to drop, the world to end. That's us, that's Gen X.

I was born in 1971. I remember back in the 80's my highschool history teacher (who was a boomer) remarking to the class that we were a lot more patriotic than his generation was. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why globalist media would prefer our generation to be forgotten. Millenials on the other hand have turned out to be significantly less patriotic overall than either of the aforementioned generations.

Living before the internet wasn't so good. I was 13 and reading books like Hitman and the anarchist cookbook. Gen X gets all their info from TV. That's why they think Millennials were all made to wear helmets and had planned play dates.

2) Gen X is a flexible generation- meaning the first Gen Xers are more likely to be lumped in with boomers, and later Gen Xers more likely to be lumped in with millennials.
Like many flexible generations this lumping is somewhat true.

3) As a previous user said one of the focal points for Gen X as it's "own thing" was the threat of nuclear war and Russian aggression.
Thus, someone born in 1970 and someone born in 1982 would both identify, and both can be considered Gen X, but their is still a lot of diversity.

We're the last generation to have an actual music movement. There's been nothing since Grunge that affected Millennials and Zoomers in any meaningful way.

Some guy in another thread about Gen X said Gen X is the last generation to understand backend information on complex systems. That is they understand why things work the way they do and why they are built that way. And this is true not just in IT.
