I don't like this new NPC meme. The boomer meme was fun, comfy and a good time for all. This NPC meme however is off putting and feels regressive.
Should we really be worrying about normies and their no inner speech bullshit? Can't we go back to just embracing our older age and making comfy memes?

I think it's a good meme because it causes certain people to question themselves. Mayhaps if it ever gets as popular as the 30 year old boomer meme, it may even cause normies to question their assumptions.
It could be useful if applied to the right demographic. For instance, if you're trying to redpill someone you know and you get hit with that pre-programmed response they've been given. Call them an NPC and when they ask, explain why you think of them as that.
I could see it working with anyone that is both close to you and plays vidya.

Also, it's impossible to ignore you NPCs because you always interfere and try steer everyone in direction that changes nothing, and in the case something does change you NPCs will carry on like normal telling everyone to ignore it until you return things to the status quo. NPCs like you also do this thing where for example some news outlet declares something is a massive outrage and all you NPCs just automatically agree and use it as a talking point, or some late night talk show host makes a lame joke and all you NPCs laugh even though it's not funny and then repeat it to anyone who will listen.

It's sick and we're sick of NPCs interfering and shutting down change.

This is simply a blip on the evolution of the mind. This is not a new thought, its just spread more widely to people who never considered higher thinking before. Most people plateau to a certain level of consciousness, for multiple reasons. Genetic predisposition, environmental factor, contentedness, attitude, single mindedness, ignorance, or just never bothered. Eventually as technology becomes better at distributing ideas, societal and cultural forces will raise the baseline consciousness of the population. This is also the beginning of legitimate ideas on actual mental illness and that thoughts can act just like viruses of the mind.

Its a matter of chaining together thoughts to improve self-consciousness.

Read their posts here and it is very clear that they don't even know what it is. They kind of get the idea of an inner monologue, but they don't get why people would want one or what it does or why it is useful. So many of them are in these threads posting about how they think "more quickly" and "more efficiently." They think they are thinking - but like many words, the word "think" has multiple possible meanings, and NPC's who rarely use words to think don't get what it really means to "think" in the way we do. An inner monologue (or really dialogue) is incredibly important to having advanced thought about and understanding of a topic, especially an abstract one. It allows you to "debate yourself." It allows your mind to wander through possible solutions and discuss them with itself. It allows DEPTH as opposed to SPEED. NPC's only understand speed. Speed of thought is their highest and only value. Get that shit over with and get back to Netflix. Words slow things down, but on difficult problems the mind works best when it comes at a problem over a period of time. It often does this unconsciously. NPC's do not consciously ruminate over their life problems. It's not that they can't have an inner monologue/dialogue - it's that they don't. After a lifetime of failing to engage in what we would view as "thinking" their minds are stunted. The average player character has probably spent a decade or more zoning out and thinking in their inner voice by their 30's. There's simply no catching up which is why NPC's freak out so much about these threads. Just as we are realizing they are essentially highly functioning animals, they are realizing that there is a level of thought around them which is wholly alien to them and which they will never be able to comprehend.

That is some real NPC opinions you got there. Why does your dialogue even contain "Selena Williams" did your script writer think that would have appeal here?

This fucks with me because damn near everyone I know acts this way. Even the most "awakened" of my friends and family still operates on a flat plane of existence, on the "checkerboard" if you will. They cannot and do not WANT to understand long form thoughts or recognize patterns that are more complicated than their immediate surroundings.
They literally will ignore certain things or topics that I bring up as it seems to breach their limit of experience/knowledge and it's as if their minds cannot comprehend what was just said. It's frankly disturbing now that this NPC meme has taken off.

Where does thinking lead to? The NPC meme is just a group of consciousnesses confronted with an interesting existential question and ruminating on it over a period of time. NPC threads are an amped up version of inner dialogue. Whether it leads to anything other than a new meme is unknown and frankly doesn't matter to non-NPC's. The process of thinking is what matters. Sometimes it leads to something of value, sometimes it is just exercise for the brain. NPC's will never understand this and cannot understand the motivation for these threads.
