Without having anything personal in this fight I agree but I'd say they shouldn't be allowed to vote or to own guns immediately after their release.

There should be a trial period for ex-convicts to see how they re-integrate back to society at large. Lets say 5-10 years.

2 years moratorium then you must go to a court and show a jury that you're a good boy who won't dindu nuffin now.

The jury then decides, based on your current situation, past convictions, etc. whether you should be allowed to have your rights back.

If the jury says no, you can repetition again the next year.

As long as they aren't on parole/complete parole and dependent on the nature of their felony, I think it would be defeating to grant 2nd amendment rights to say someone convicted of armed robbery etc.

Parole is part of your sentence where on certain conditions you're allowed outside to work and be productive. You aren't still free.

I work in a line a of work where i talk a lot of jail birds, druggies, and people who have commited major felonies. Most are very right wing. Very few stray left. If felons could vote than democrats would be sol.

Prisons should be abolished. Either death penalty or physical punishment such as whipping or caning. Why throw someone in a giant facility with several hundred other criminals for 10 years for robbery and spend tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars on their worthless ass when you can just give them 30 lashes and send them on their way.
Prison is good for nobody except the (((people))) running the prisons who make money off of selling clothes, weapons, AC, food, training, etc to the prisons, which taxpayers pay for, and for what? For what fucking purpose? If the crime was so heinous that the individual must be removed from the civilian population for the remainder of their life, then just fucking hang them. If it wasn't bad enough to kill them over, then give them a severe beating so as to deter them from doing it again (and potential criminals from doing it in the first place) and let them move on with their lives.
And none of this 'stripping of rights' shit, rights are rights, they're either permanent or they're not, you don't get to just take them away unless someone has committed a serious offense in which case you just take away their life so they can't endanger other law-abiding citizens. "Rights" which can be arbitrarily taken away are privileges.

A fair trial is of utmost importance. If we're going to kill a man, we need to be absolutely positive that he has done something worth killing him over. And as far as holding people in prisons for multiple years while they're in court, I'd prefer to lose a few criminals who manage to flee the country than even waste money and resources on large prisons. If you don't show up for court dates, you will be criminally punished. My desire is to have the threat of punishment be so great that crime will drop like a rock. When you commit a crime your options are: beating or death. No more 3 meals a day in an air-conditioned facility where you don't have to work and you only have share a bedroom with one other person. That's no punishment, for some it's a reward.
Temporary holding facilities would be a necessity, but they would never be permanent residences, and a sentence would never involve a prison time, only community service, beating, or death, and only death in the cases of crimes such as pedophilia or pre-meditated murder.

I am tempted to agree, in practicality, but I fear this principle being applied to other Civil Rights (1st Am, 4th, etc).

i believe in abolishing prisons for different reasons then you. i do it because i think prison is too harsh and too brutal of a punishment to sit in a room and staring at a wall for years at a time you will become bored to death

I'm talking like less than day 'temporary', only somewhere to lock up people that were just arrested, like a drunk tank. Once we've actually sorted out the situation, they'll get a court summons, show up in court, and the proceedings to go on as usual, except they're not in prison, they just show up for a trial as if they had been speeding, and go home afterwards. Anything less than this and we'll never even be able to arrest criminals and keep them in one place while we figure out if they were even rightfully arrested.
