I work in the oil and gas industry. We had questions like this as well. Our company recommended the not be a snitch route. They said when something happens similar to your scenario to first talk to the person and describe that it’s inappropriate and if the behavior continued to talk to a supervisor.

Furthermore the interview is also a test of liability, imagine $500 goes missing from your separtment and the guy who hired you reports that you said you would be okay with and hide theft. That gets him and you fired, and maybe even the building audited. Dont take it so personally, its loterally business, and business is based partly on simple verbal contracts like this, theyre not trying to scour your brain and test for subservience

You think it's a harmless crime, giving away small merchandise for a lower price or for free, and you think it's not worth alerting the supervisor that an employee is stealing on such a small level - which might cost that employee his job or at least whatever relationship you have with him.

But if he's caught doing it once, he's probably been doing it several times. Not only does this cost your employer money, if unchecked, it could cost your whole store their jobs. It's a cookie franchise. It's probably operating on razor thin margins, struggling just to keep the lights on and hire some a few idiots to stand behind the counter. I have more experience interviewing for office jobs than I do food service/retail, but generally you look up the sorts of questions you're bound to get beforehand, have perfect drone-worker answers for them then spend the rest of the interview asking them enough questions so that they end up talking about themselves and the business itself, and come away from the interview thinking how nice you were.
