It feels like UFO/ayy sightings and encounters just don't ever happen anymore and have slipped out of the public consciousness, when in the past they were a big part of pop culture and widely believed in and accepted. Also considering everyone now carries a camera on them 24/7 you'd think it'd be easy to take pictures of them, which leads me to believe it was just mass hysteria plus boredom (which also doesn't exist anymore due to constant mobile internet access). A buddy of mine faked a major one in the 1990s retards are still analyzing to this day. It's always good for a laugh and pretty much discredits the entire ufo investigation scene when you have people telling you something was impossible to fake that you yourself know is made up.
For the record I don't think he told anyone how he did it so the explanation might be a first: He pointed his camera outside his condo window and filmed the reflection of a spinning plastic ufo model in his room. He then made a silhouette cutout of the buildings outside the window and moved the ufo behind them so it looks like its flying behind the skyline.
It probably stopped because what's the point of putting effort into making a hoax when anyone can glue leds to a drone or use editing software and in 15 minutes beat what took weeks of planning back then.

Especially with those wide angle lenses on cell phones ( +/- 22mm )
If one wants to capture more than a small blurry dot one needs at least an 800 mm tele-lens and a stabilizing tripod. and then you still have only a few seconds to get it in frame, adjust to the right amount of light exposure and a fast enough shutter speed to get a sharp image. Good luck with that.

The trick to seeing them has always been living near a NATO base.
