They have redefined 'cause of death'. Now, it's not just drowning, falling debris, electrocution from fallen power lines. The list includes 'couldn't get to the hospital because roads closed', 'was overheated due to lack of air conditioning', etc. Basically secondary effects.
And of course blame always goes to the highest level of the Federal government and are never directed locally.
My family are native Floridians since the mid 1800's and we've been through tons of hurricanes. There was never any such thing as FEMA when I was a kid. A hurricane would hit, things would get broken and each community would clean their shit up right away. Chainsaws and handsaws could be heard for days and we did everything ourselves. Neighbors came together and it just worked. I'm not sure FEMA has made anything better.

I live in North Alabama. In April of 2011 we had a massive tornado outbreak. Entire small towns were simply wiped off the map. The city of Huntsville was without power for over a week. The response was mostly local. Churches had drives to collect essentials like food, clothing and other necessities for the victims. Neighbors got together and helped each other clean up. Huntsville had some damage, but the main problem bwas a complete lack of power in a city of 200,000 people. There was some unrest the first night, but the Madison County Sheriff imposed a 9PM curfew and put out a message saying that people had a right to defend their lives and property with whatever force they seemed necessary. The city stayed quiet for the most part. Small towns like Hatten and Hayleyville quietly rebuilt, mostly without the help of FEMA. I know a couple of people whose homes were obliterated who bought prefab storage sheds, insulated them and installed plumbing and electrical and had a place to live while they were waiting for insurance and their houses to be rebuilt. No one really waited around for the government to come and save them.

Really absurd part is most of the damage that actually occurred there was done prior to the hurricane.
They've tried blaming Trump for the fact Puerto Rico has been in shit condition for years.
