It's not difficult to explain: he runs.. how many companies? Even if he's "just" the face, even if "all" he did was bring the initial money, which would be plenty for most company owners, he'd still have his plate full of stuff. He seems to take a pretty active role, so he ends up doing stuff like sleeping in the factory, probably travels a shit ton (being on a jet all the time is really not conducive to a good sleep schedule) and I do believe he does engineering shit too.
I don't necessarily seem him as a "thinker" or genius, or what have you, but I do believe first of all - he's not dumb. He's pretty smart himself. But he also meets a lot of smart people, sits in when they discuss how to solve various problems, has probably been through every aspect of everything regarding anything his companies do and so on.
So to say that he's just a PR salesman, well maybe he is, maybe not. But even if he is, I think his second-hand knowledge is pretty vast. It's like watching videos about "how stuff works" endlessly for your job, but you get to ask questions too, and someone reads everything for you. That's what it's like being the boss that gets all the info on everything, and every cool new possible invention explained to you (even the countless that are turned down, of course).
Most of it is probably just that's he very involved, so he's always a bit worn out from all the moving about and thinking about a bunch of different things at once.

Engineering involves man hours and mathematical trial and error, as such it's a collaborative effort. Why is it so hard to imagine musks involvement in design and implementation, it's all hands on deck when deadlines are this severe. This isn't how space works user.
The only sort of heat conduction that happens is through radiation, and what happens is you get to a thermal equilibrium. Remember, the car also radiates heat back, so as long as it radiates more than it receives (not particularly hard, it isn't that much heat) it won't melt. In fact the bigger issue is that it would freeze - but even that would take a long time to do so, since black body radiation is very slow itself.

Are you sure about that? I read an article a while ago that said that the launch platform didn't have enough delta-v. And the lunar modules weren't big enough for a trip to mars. Also the landing module didn't have enough thrust to safely land and take off.
