Temp housing doesn't work. They live with or near other homeless people which keeps them around drugs and violence. It only looks like it is working on paper because there are less homeless statistically. The reality is that more were dying from overdoses. Now that naloxone is out there the homeless population (at least in my city) is starting to skyrocket.

a large amount of the homeless are disabled one way or another and "getting back on their feet" isn't even possible. you'd have to warehouse them somewhere, which, believe it or not, many don't want, they rather live outside.

they should be given a chance to do honest work in such a way to separate the wheat from the chaff.the ones that dont make the cut can get gassed if they aren't feeble old men or disabled vets and what not

The only institution the state should have to help with the homeless is called a mental hospital.

Charity should be done by private individuals, and anti-loitering laws should be enforced... And they should be sent to prison to recover.

You never want to give people stuff as a reward for being dysfunctional. You always want to make it uncomfortable and shameful to use public welfare services.

I know the homeless are homeless by their own hands....

they get drug and mental health services and housing and do agricultural work. They can live in two-man bunk houses. They can take correspondence courses until they qualify for a job.

This does solve a type of homeless.
We should be an advanced society. The two next steps are

temporary housing and resources solve nothing for homeless people. they just leave because the temporary housing wont let them get high while staying there and return to being a homeless helpless bum begging in stopped traffic under that overpass you drive by every morning

Give them jobs to work for the state (paving/construction/sanitation/whatever) and let them contribute and earn their shit. This also keeps the contracts out of the hands of shit head asphalt companies that take $1m to do a $50k job.

the important part is making a transition for them.

we need sanctuary areas were they can be protected from predation, receive services and live in coverted abandoned urban properties. they would have their own gate community to stop criminals from taking advantage of the homeless.

Almost all the homeless are either drug addicts, alcoholics, have severe psychological problems, unemployable low IQs, or are just fucked up too much to be able to look after themselves or even look after a small apartment. A lot of them want to be homeless too.

There should be a policy for dealing with orphans that is separate from the homeless policy

It's by the skin of my balls I haven't been homeless half my adult life. How to help the homeless? First of all, stop helping the niggers and illegal spics. 90% of the people I see when I walk into any kind of assistance office belong to those two groups. Second of all, offer us real jobs. Jobs that prove our worth. I'm not talking about "oh you only have to file copies from 9 to 10 on odd-number weekdays" bullshit, I'm talking about "you punch holes in hot steel and if you don't our boys are short a thousand units, you cocksucker" type work.
Given a chance to prove himself a man, the white man will rise to to the top. But in the system, it doesn't matter. This is where your vote matters. There's already a legal process and benefits for legitimate disability. Most of them are homeless don't stay homeless, the remainder are chronically homeless due to drug and alcohol abuse, they stop showing up for work, they don't pay their rent, they beat their spouses, they go mentally insane from chronic substance abuse, they end up where they put themselves.
