.22 is actually more effective on Kevlar than a .40 or a .45. Smaller surface area for the Kevlar to grab.

body armor =| kevlar. kevlar is nothing more than 'advanced denim'. **its basically a non-neutonian fabric** The way it works is the structure of the material causes it to gain strength in response to blunt force trauma but will be as helpful against a knoif or a any bullet which has a tip to it rather than flat or round. the more surface area the impacting face of the projectile has the more of a chance the kevlar has at stopping that round. flat/round faced rounds can still penetrate if they have either 1) ample power or 2) hit at an angle that focuses the kinetic energy on a smaller portion of the kevlar allowing it to slip through. So kevlar will only protect against pistol and shotgun rounds the amount of protection relies on the distance and angle. In theory it will protect against a slug. But you are still going to go down and could still die from it.
