Thoughts on Oman

What does this board think of this country?

Up

oh man idk where to begin

I don't know a fucking thing about it.

avicii killed himself there

I don't think I have ever though about Oman

I've been to Muscat and Khasab. Felt pretty quiet, like all countries as long as people are wealthy enough then crime is low and any shitskin Islamic extremism is kept at bay.

i literally dont, but when forced to the country is an ugly awful shithole with people i wouldnt want to share my community with

Well, Avicii killed himself there.

It was colonized by Portugal once.

Ever since its independence from both Portugal and the Ottomans Oman has adopted a very isolationist policy

Its sect of Islam predates both Sunni and Shia

These are all the facts I know

Yes they execute salafists and arrest suspects

Nice flag

They don't want to share anything with you either they do their best to keep off radar in the most unstable region of the world

I wish there were more Omanese because you are the only majority Ibadite country. Sunni and Shia are homo-tier.

>Omanese

State of burger education

True

I don't know for how long they will be able to maintain their sovereignty and not be forced to "pick a side" (KSA/Israel or Iran)

It's alright, no strong feelings one way or the other
Did the Saudis tried to ruin it?

>being a grammar nazi

I thought polderniggers were supposed to be different from germans

Yes, in 2011

prove you're form it

What?

Pretty flag. A lot better than the endless shit red white black arab combinations.

These ones are used mostly in the fertile crescent

Visited it once, it was nice.
Literally just a desert, some nice beaches and oasis. Barely anything to do though, just visit malls. They're less mad about religion than their Saudi neighbor, but stil very conservative. Most people there travel to Dubai on weekends to get drunk.

How did it went?
Did it ended up like Yemen?

Khawarij --> Ibadi school of Islam (75% of all people living in Oman), Neither Sunni nor Shia

Absolute monarchy; Strait of Hormuz; Oil/Gas; Fish; Abolished slavery in 1970; lots of Phillipinos; Zanzibar once belonged to Oman.

ive heard good things about Oman.

No, the Sultan cracked the protests down and jailed suspects of salafism.

Also the governement gives free land to all citizens and oil is cheap as fuck

I see you visited the gardens of Muscat

based

>What Do You Guys Think?

how do i know that you are actually from Oman and not just pretending?

I went diving in Oman once, was really nice. I feel like you're the Canadians of the Gulf, too irrelevant to give a shit about.

Aside from the ones I met scuba diving, I have not met a single Omani in my life. I've met all the types of khalijis. Not Omanis thos.

Not much green I have to say, but the contrast with the desert is lovely. Wish I had visited Salalah.

But I said "this", not "my" country

I think Switzerland of MENA is a better term hahaha

Omanis are a bunch of friendly weirdos who occasionally dabble in black magic..

Forgot to take off flag. Also for anyone curious, the spot was called Musandam. Nice place for Scuba

It is a quiet place, though not without it's share of trouble. Has some of the features of the UAE seeing as it is all so close together without having a city like Dubai. Oman extends down to the border with Yemen, but in spite of this the area is very peaceful.

The 60s were wild for the country. The Dhofar rebellion almost saw the southern half split off and only didn't because of British SAS intervention. The old Sultan was also replaced by his son, the beloved and really gay Sultan Qaboos, in a bloodless coup in 1970 and has reigned ever since.

They fucking love their sultan, no joke. It almost feels like state propaganda, which it partly is, but while he has been ill there have been billboards and notices everywhere wishing him good health. Having talked to a few Omani's about it there seems to be a feeling that he is responsible for the stability of his country in a region that is so volatile. Remember that they border Yemen and Saudi Arabia, they share water with Iran, they have to keep a lid on their own extremists, and they follow a separate sect of Islam from the rest.

It really is a huge surprise Oman is as quiet as it is.

Thanks, Omanis try to live and enjoy their lives as much pleasantly as possible, they just want to be left alone and not deal with global politics.

They even have Tim Hortons

True that ya5i, but I really must ask: why is that? Seems very intriguing to me, as if you're hiding something. Emiratis have Dubai, Yemenis are mad cunts, Saudis are Saudis, Qataris are wannabe emiratis, and Bahrainis have F1. But Oman? It's like Wakanda, fuck knows what goes on there.

what are you lads hiding? I'm very curious

Oman, the real power behind the curtains in arab peninsula. The puppet master moving the strings out of sight.

>Halal Tim Horton's
Ayyyy, that's pretty based of them

I think Omanis just want to be left alone, Omanis have been invaded so many times and just thought "fuck the rest of the World this is not worth it".

Oman has some of the only real estate worth living in on the entire Arabian Peninsula.

The Dhofar Mountains. These mountains actually get a ton of rainfall and are completely gorgeous. Unlike anything you'll see anywhere else on the peninsula. Totally unique.

They're also tiny though. The green part of the Dhofar mountain range is only about 50 miles long. So it's this tiny green oasis in a sea of sand. It's amazing.

I wish, if the Peninsula was Ibadi MENA would've been a better place todat.

O man, I bet that place sucks.

heh

They don't mind some friendly visits now and then though.

Attached: the queen and the sultan.jpg (594x403, 99K)

Well, apart from trade of course, besides that they keep to themselves.

Redpill me on the sultan

Is he based? Any criticism of him? Is he /ourguy/? Why does he wear the turban?

Fuck, forgot pic

Attached: Omani_Qaboos_bin_Said_Al_Said_(cropped).jpg (655x527, 267K)

He's literally a faggot.

His beard is very stylish though.

True, it almost loooks fake

Like literally literally? Any proofs? Big if true
>it almost looks fake
OI M8, ARE YOU INSULTING THE SULTAN!? DO YA HAVE A LOICENSE FOR THAT M8

No direct heir, no wives apart from one or two arranged marriages decades ago. Also rumors of being a pedophile. Will be a shitshow once he finally dies.

It's a nice little country and probably the best in the entire middle east in regards to diverse landscapes, especially if you like diving and lack of fundamental Islam, also a former British protectorate.

You'll see Omanis driving taxis and bagging groceries unlike in KSA/UEA, very friendly and down to earth culture because while the oil money is there it's nowhere near as much as the other gulf states so they didn't go from riding camels to driving land rovers overnight and don't have that stuck up air to them.

Seems like a pretty chill country, wants to keep doing business with Iran and US and avoid any retarded war.

Unfortunate Saudis are trying to bully them to not be a piece of shit Wahabbi

True, I used to live in the UAE, and the zoomers there were absolute khunts, all unbearable and obnoxious little shits. Emiratis over 30 were really nice tho, welcoming and helpful

Very interesting to see how money changes people

With (((Saudis))) you lose

Based Ibadis

The Sultan had a massive opera hall built just because he's a massive opera nut. Truly based.

I know almost nothing about it. Are Jews hunted for sport there? That'd be pretty cool.

I know nothing about it

Forgot pic

Hippy Muslims

its one of the few places that remains off the radar, even to other muslims.

Post Omani qt3.14s

Isn't it like rich and stable cousin of Yemen?

Switzerland of the muslim world

I like Oman a lot. Family lived there for some time. The most important thing is that Omanis have largely maintained their culture and haven't been excessively corrupted by the West (Jews) like UAE has. It's a really beautiful country.

My concern is that eventually when the Sultan dies, I hope they have a peaceful succession.

Attached: Picture 291.jpg (2592x1944, 1.19M)

muscat grapes are bullshit and baba al mandeb is way more fun than sea of memerabia

I was under the impression their Ibadism lets them sort of float above the Sunni-Shia shitshow.
Also they were master sailors and the interior/coast are entirely different culturally like Dune Fremen/cities

Attached: 1507070581241.jpg (1544x1000, 176K)

Depends

Omanis are culturally and ethnically closer to Persians while Yemenis are closer to Cush people (Somalis, Eritreans and Ethiopians)

Flag loogs lige benis 8======D
:DDDDD
