In the old days you could actually learn a lot from games, history, strategy and politics, now they're all politically correct and dumbed down for the huge US market. Board games are making a comeback for this reason.

Well... its tough to say. Its definitely becoming a problem for alot of men. I mean so many people forget how video games can be and in fact are often designed to be an enormous time sink. No big deal i guess if your family is doing well and fed and bills are paid, but from my experience (im a dad with one wife and one kid) after you have met families needs there is almost always little to no time left for this. Once in awhile when im with my brother it happens and this is like once every other month and we play single player games on console with a pause button NO MMO games or counter strike or cod or any of that shit. I could probably do more vidya if i didnt lift but i want to lift because its more manly than vidya. Golf is another hobby that consumes alot of time and produces nothing along with d and d, iphone games, social media, drinking at the bar, movie theatres, gambling. All these things are potentially huge time sinks and can be abuses but otherwise are innocent and harmless. We all got to have SOMETHING to do when we cut loose after a hard days work right?

7, 8, 9 and Chrono Cross are very dear to me too. I had played games way earlier but that time at Square just exuded deeper meaning behind everything - I still feel like those were my stories even though millions played them, and I still can find deeper meaning and more nuanced fun replaying them.

No. Video games ruined my life. I'm 30 and I've probably spent 30 percent of my adult life in hours playing video games. It is a massive waste of time, money, and your health. Sedentary lifestyles contribute to mental and physical health issues and that's not even counting how it affects your social life, which in turn exacerbates your mental health issues even more.

I'm not trying to vilify video games. Video games teach critical thinking skills, hand eye coordination, and problem solving schemas. They enhance your ability to read. But for the most part it's a time sink that turns you into an unpleasant waste of space and genetic material.

This used to be true but not now. Video games used to be made in-order to create engaging story telling experiences with new creative content built around exploration and problem solving.

Now they're reduced to the dumbest possible fucking level in-order to facilitate microtransactions and marketability to as many people as possible. All creative content has been homogenized. Nothing innovates. They're designed to feed the addictive parts of your personality until they literally destroy you or you're simply incapable of enjoying them anymore which is where I'm at.

Yes, doing drugs is better than video games by a mile because they usually lead to interesting stories and experiences. For example, taking a pill of MDMA at the park and then spending the afternoon playing tag with completely random kids on a whim. I just made that up, but such can easily happen.

That sucks to look back at your life and see how much you blew sitting in front of a screen. Its what i did with alot of my childhood and teen years as well.
