A year after I graduated my university emailed out an online survey.
After I completed it, it showed the total results for my graduating class.
40 something percent were unemployed, and another 30 had jobs completely unrelated to their field of study.
And that was just within the college of engineering.

There are way more teachers than are needed. And many of them are not good. But to be honest how good the teacher is, and the funding/quality of the school does not affect how well the kids do anyway. They think their job is more important than it is.

I worked in education, all the "shaping young minds" crap is just something the unions put out when it is time to talk about pay raises. The cold fact of the matter is that a lot of people want to be teachers, so many people want to teach that many don't even need the money. Most teachers are married women (or men, but usually women) who make less than their spouse.
Basically, it is not a job that someone does for the money. Because of how many teachers there are, people can pay them less.
Basically, what they do is valuable but lots of people are willing to do it, and do it cheap. That is the reason I went into my field instead of education.

Teachers get summers off, every weekend, half days, holidays and only work 7am - 4 pm in a controlled environment with A/C and heat. Etc.

Welder is working 6am - 6pm. No summers, no weekends, no half days and maybe Christmas off. Out side in the cold or heat or in a welding shop that is over 100 degrees. Also, he only gets a 30 min break. Etc.

the "teacher is underpaid" meme is a myth. a teacher's average salary is $60 k a year, spread out if necessary over a three month vacation time.
remember, 60 is an average. there are plenty that make far more.
however, there are a number of problems that are unrelated to their pay.
