Economically free countries have higher wages, lower crime rates, less corruption, etc etc. More state controlled countries have more poverty, inequality, lower wages, hunger, etc.

Socialism works for some things to a point and in certain situations if it’s done right. Just like any system, if the people at the top are incompetent or corrupt, it will fail. In order for socialism to succeed, the populace needs to be well educated and responsible, while also able to think collectively and see a stake in insuring the welfare of their fellow countrymen—this is why it works in ethnically and racially homogenous nations with overall high IQ and cultures that value responsibility. If you don’t have that, it collapses under the weight of its own gibs as specific identity groups seize control and game the system for their own benefit (and make this part of their identity) at the expense of those who are doing productive work.

You have universal healthcare in a lot of socialist countries and they are shit, in capitalist countries they are still shit, but they can still afford it (because they are mainly capitalist), but one socialist policy calls for another, and another and another, and as you become less capitalist, the system starts to not be able to pay for itself.

Socialism can realistically only work in a high trust, intelligent, relatively homogenous population. Otherwise with open borders you will get less capable people who want to take advantage of the generous welfare state without being able to contribute as much to it, and the higher amount of this will obviously start leading to a depletion in services and budget. Once the productive citizens and taxpayers are outnumbered by the low wage low skilled welfare recipients, you will have obvious problems.
