What does that drug even do

Because the cost of research and design is also high

>company spends a billion dollars researching a potential cure/treatment for a disease
>HURRR BUT WHY YOU NOT GIVE IT AWAY FOR FREE?

It increases Cl- transport by the mutant G551D CFTR (the reason 5% of people have cystic fibrosis) to a level that significantly benefits them.

>let me just make new drugs in my garage

I hope your kids get cystic fibrosis

>spend ten - twenty years developing new groundbreaking drug
>billions of dollars spent.
>new tools, manufacturing techniques, and science had to be created to create new drug
>finally after ten - twenty years of development had to spend two - five years in trials and seek fda approval
>after passing trials and granted fda approval can finally go on the market
this is why medicine costs so much. research and development is literately a black hole. you never know how much you'll need, how long it will take, and can it actually be achieved at all.

now there's one thing to continue to price gouge after ten - twenty years on the market after cost recoup and profit is achieved. but after a new medicine is released? yeah it can take ten - fifteen years before money is recoup and any profit is made.

>but but 300,000!
i'm willing to bet its a drug that aids something that isn't common but something that helps those tremendously who need it. if the demand is low, price will be higher. yeah its ridiculous but so is making a new drug.

if one person can amass a net worth of 165 billion by stealing than yes the drug companies should be allowed to steal as well

>Why is this allowed?
To justify the cost of research to make it possible.

My meds cost the tax payers 24 thousand Canadian shekels a year
Feels bad man

Oh shit anons!

A company does not spend a fortune and decades of time making something simply for the benefit of other people. That is a pleasant side effect of turning a profit. Want something for free? Go dig in the trash commie.

>to a level that significantly benefits them.
in that case I'm glad it's too expensive. why should some people get to have super human abilities just because you took a pill for your meme disease

>WHY SHIT GOTS TO COST MONEY!
Fuck off, Bernigger.

You guys realize this is a white disease right? Since when did Jow Forums turn into greedy kikes?

>OP wants everything for free
>somehow this makes everyone else greedy

>why is something so expensive

Because people are willing to pay for it

It is simple economics

Degenerate American useless goy.

Why is it that some people can't accept their fate? This disease is a death sentence. Why are so many people so afraid of death? Especially those who believe in religious ideas like heaven or reincarnation? Then have the audacity to complain about the cost of cutting edge treatments. I don't know I just have a hard view of death.

pic unrelated

Attached: Death Row.jpg (960x960, 139K)

idk, why is it so expensive, exactly?

Additionally, what sort of systems are in place that allow them to be able to charge such a high price? No normal person could ever afford that.

People who argue for socialized medicine - should we really just tax everyone and pay these drug companies whatever price they ask for? Wouldn't it be more intelligent to find out why the prices are so high and what allows them to be so high?

Tip: It's not "inelasticity of demand".

Waste of tucking money. Who do you think pays for this? The patient? LOL it's coming out of your pockets.

Fuck these people and fuck Obamacare.

At most $1M of that money goes towards research. The rest is pocketed.

(Cost of research and development)/(number of patients benefitting)+compensation for use of capital=price

This is not complicated. And before you bitch about the cost of capital, the investor goes where the return is--maybe that return comes from curing cancer, maybe it comes from mango flavored Juul shit.

Oh do enlighten us with your source on that

normie memes don't usually get my goat but this one is just fine

Attached: 1533427823231.jpg (720x545, 85K)

1. The research that went into creating this drug was probably expensive.
2. As far as I know the disease it cures is not exactly common.

Now divide the costs for research by the amount of people that buy this drug, add production costs and a small profit margin and you have the rather high price.

This you brainlets

>Forgets to attach image
>Too busy wacking it
Your poor parents

It's not complicated but it is a terrible system.

Big pharma in the house!

You can think of a better system that would actually incentivize effort applied to these problems, Mohammed. No govt sure as hell has demonstrated such an ability to centrally plan such resource allocation.

name a better system toothpaste

that's not at all how it works, they just charge as high as people are willing to pay since they have a government enforced monopoly.

That's just not true and your post reeks of 19 y/o dumbass zoomer who thinks he knows everything. The scientists working on new drugs all make six figures. The equipment used to research and develop drugs is very expensive. The ingredients for new drugs can be incredibly rare and expensive. It takes years for drugs to go through the R&D and approval process to make it to market so that's how long you are paying scientists and buying equipment/ingredients. There are countless drugs that never make it to market because they are unsuccessful in clinical trials and lose tons of money. Those are all essential costs that can't be handwaved off as "muh greedy kike executives and investors."

US taxpayers have footed the bill for the drug research on many of these pills for Big Pharma, then they turn around and financially rape the original backers.

Development costs + cost of development failures + overheads (physical infrastructure/employees/insurance/GMP GLP compliance etc) / market size = drug price

The actual drug price of the synthetic components usually isnt much, but when you consider the mountain of costs behind the scenes, prices climb dramatically.

When you buy a new drug, you arent just paying for the drug, youre paying for 10 failed projects plus a mountain of overheads.

t. Pharmacologist for a decade

Because they can force insurance companies to pay it.

You can order this same thing from India for $800

Then why would anyone buy it? Don’t and he won’t sell any and will be forced to lower the price. It isn’t even an essential life saving drug.

Fucking this

What people fail to understand is that they could be 10 years into the process of approval and suddenly the FDA could say “Sorry it doesn’t match our safety criteria” or some other bullshit
That’s billions wasted

>You can order this same thing from India for $800
No. That's about the same yearly cost here, but you can't import it into your country for legal reasons. Get fucked mutt.

I understand that developing a new drug costs a huge amount, but I also think it's kind of weird that said development cost is then factored into the price of the drug itself. I don't think that occurs in any other industry. There's something weird going on in the pharmaceutical industry specifically.

Correct me if I'm wrong though.

>but you can't import it into your country for legal reasons
it's a pill not your cousin jorge

Increases share prices for Jewish investors

Jow Forums loves Jews now.

>I don't think that occurs in any other industry.
Tech industry is like that too. Many others as well, probably.

It's just undocumented medicine. No medicine is illegal.

Not if its a new chemical entity. generics arent allowed to move in until the patent expires (~15-20 years).
If you think youre buying a generic from india a year after market entry then congratulations on buying lactose tablets from a dodgy warehouse in hyderabad.

but you are wrong fucking retard

they are not charities making their money back they are for-profit corporations with a govenrment enforced monopoly

they sell at whatever price maximizes (nb people willing to buy at that price)*(price) since they have 0 competition.

Fuck you're right how would they make billions of dollars if they didn't charge 5x median income

patents are not world-wide

it's not a governent-enforced monopoly, but drug patent rights particularly in the US are way too generous to big pharma

Even better. White people are cancer

Attached: assetaccess314.jpg (960x540, 50K)

that process exists for a reason

Attached: patentmedicine03.jpg (393x600, 122K)

Because fda demands 5billion in development and study expenses

no, but trade treaties do

in a restaurant if you do a bunch of prep and the item doesnt sell you either repurpose the item or eat the loss (few hundred bucks max?)
Not a big deal.

In pharma, if a drug is not safe, or effective, or is poorly soluble etc. etc. you cant make back any money from it because it will not receive market approval from regulatory bodies, so you eat the loss. Unlike the restaurant however, these losses run into the millions to hundreds of millions category.
Not factoring these losses into costing because "it isnt done elsewhere" would just be terrible business acumen.

cystic fibrosis is a made up disease used as an excuse by cunts that dont want to participate in life

Attached: 651.jpg (528x405, 29K)

This. This is why pharmaceutical companies are barely scraping by.

poor bastards. someone really should do something to help

You'd be right if R&D was the biggest expense for pharma companies. It's not. Marketing is the biggest expense for them.

>can be identified through genetic testing
>made up
I think I wish this board weren't anonymous and everyone could know to avoid posts by whatever your username would be.

>Literally Google "most expensive pills"
>Shocked when it is expensive

Go rake yourself.
Pharmaceutical development isnt a charitable industry and no one has ever claimed it is.
The rate of success of development of a pharmaceutical product from start to finish is about 10%, at an investment rate of millions to billions per drug candidate. With a total development time of 10-15 years mind you.
What kind of person would invest money into that if they didnt stand a chance of "winning big" on the high risk investment?
If pharmaceutical development didnt have a chance at running on profit, no money would go into it and no development would ever come to fruition.

Corporate kikes love to fuck over the sick with expensive medicine, and they have teached the American to enjoy it. Because not wanting to die for not being rich is too much to ask.

At least you can keep your doctor™

You are thinking of fybromyalgia, in which case you would be correct

Cystic fibrosis is a big fucking deal dude. Even Aidsniggerfaggots live longer

Because enforced genetic hygiene is considered unethical, so we have to price out the unfit from existence.

In other markets there are generally alternatives, even for patented things. It keeps prices reasonable because there's still competition.

In medicine, there is often zero alternative, or they bribe doctors to prescribe their stuff, so they are free to raise the price to obscene levels. You are correct it has little to do with development costs. These people are pure evil and socialist countries are correct to force them to charge less.

>cystic fibrosis

>Cystic fibrosis / Prevalence
>Rare
>Fewer than 200,000 US cases per year

So it's a case of limited demand. Not saying big pharma doesn't pull bullshit but in a case like this it's understandable.

>development cost is then factored into the price of the drug itself. I don't think that occurs in any other industry
??? Development costs affect price in every industry. Pharmacy just has really high costs usually because different companies owned by the same funds with identical boards just sell shit back and forth to each other while billing the gov too then they add all this in to price they bill gov Medicare and insurance.

Once development and regulatory testing is done though yeah it is trivial production costs. Generic companies, often owned by same funds and same boards as big pharma, then just produce low price pills once the patent runs out. Usually do things like lavas 10% production costs by dropping purity of genetics down a few points too

>The dead dont get life so neither should we.
This is what your philosophy boils down to. If you cant have this medicide nobody should. If the homeless cant have houses nobody should. If the sich cang have good health nobody should. If the starving cant have food if the thirsty cant have water... if the dead cannot live. Youre in a suicide cult.

Because only jews get cystic fibrosis and they are like .05% of the worlds population. There is still no profit incentive on this drug. They should probably stop making it altogether.

*sick cant

If your leader poisoned the communal kool aid youd be retarded not to expect it.

>it probably cost a few billion to make
>it cost millions just to register them
t. researcher in medicine

But by then the drug will probably be generic because they've made all the money back.

Then you have the answer right there OP.
It is a medication that targets 5% of the people who have this disease.
Less customers means higher prices in order to turn profit.

Then why does India get to buy the same pill for $100?

Because it's the company's property you drooling communist retard? But then again, this is a pointless shill thread, enjoy your 2 cents you worthless piece of shit.

Probably to make the company look altruistic to retarded leftists.
