Well liberals probably view themselves as intelligent because previously their 'progressive movement' was fighting the establishment for human rights, liberty, etc. However my view is that the so called 'progressive' movement has largely been appropriated by an aggressively leftist mentality and the original free thinkers and those with alike mindsets are now the ones vying for conservative policy.

This is my opinion but evidence for it lies in the fact that many modern conservative views can be supported by real world evidence or logical deduction.

For example, an example of a very conservative view would be that homosexuality stems from mental illness. This can be supported by the thinking that if the sexuality is a predisposition (as opposed to a choice) it equates to infertility and is a reproductive disorder of the mind. If the sexuality is a choice, the subject is also disabled for the inability to desist from useless from non-beneficial or potentially harmful activity (think of someone who is unable to stop playing the board game monopoly every day, does that constitute a disorder?).
