maybe the best area to check is outside the Fruitdale area (outside Grants Pass) Lots of big lots and shops with plenty of wildlife like deer, elk, turkey, etc. Close enough to town you can hit the major shopping hubs in less than 10 minutes yet see little of the insanity that comes with city life.

My best fren moved to Bend 20 years ago.
I visit a couple times a year, great fishing & outdoor fun.
My problem with the east side is that it is COLD....really FUCKING COLD.
Did I mention it is cold?
The cold keeps the 'undesirable' types away....so there is an upside.
But....as a CA native I just cannot deal with that.
Bend is beautiful, like storybook lovely, but I can't deal with that kind of winter.
