Take Apples for example they are usually 9-12 months old before sale due to extensive refrigeration. Fresh apples aren't sold in Australian supermarkets. Like Oranges they are virtually all from the previous season harvest. That means in the case of apples the needles must've been put into fruit 12 months prior, which is another cycle of back packer workers.
