They're not traditional, especially with the child. Aside from the widowed, which is rare these days, they're cosplaying as traditional women and are trying to conceal their past. Problem is, their past will always be a part of them and it has turned them into the person they are, a lying, conniving woman who is trying to sink her teeth into an honest man.

An aside: This is why life choices are so important. People try to run away from their past and that's never going to happen. Choose wisely, or at the very least don't choose stupid stuff.

A lot of them are reverting to traditional nature because it attracts a mate for them. They weren't interested in a mate at first, but as they inch closer to the wall they have to change and they know it. The only solid answer I've found is to ride the tiger.
