This. Look at that picture - literally every discernible and unique facial feature is being concealed. At first glance it looks like someone trying to hide whot they are in a photo - even the lips and mouth are contorted, pressure on cheeks and chin. Ears hidden with large gauge rings, huge thick rimmed glasses with large tape to hide eyebrows and nose, large bangs to hide forehead. She might as well be wearing a "groucho mask" -- I'm not even sure that's a woman.

As an old guy who also went to an all boys college prep school can confirm.
But the whole teenage experience back then would probably shock the youth of today as far as drinking goes. 13 and up you'd have adults thinking it was funny 'sneaking' you drinks at family and social events. And to have a bunch of 15yr old fall down drunk at say a parade or street festival was common and seen as amusing back then.
