In developed nations, what do these traffickers and kidnappers actually do with people they target? It seems like a whole lot of work and infrastructure to depend upon to keep people sequestered or continually in a state of forced labor.

I kind of feel like a very few examples of “attempted kidnappings”, or outlandish stories where people start referring to being followed out of locations or marked for kidnapping are results of virtue signaling perfectly explanatory occurrences and are way overstated.
Are there like black market slave auctions or what? Who is buying these kidnapped people?
My GF will also repost and share a ton of “first hand accounts” of girls who feel like some suspicious behavior happens, and it always is blamed on potential HUMAN TRAFFICKERS.

About a dozen years ago I worked as a DJ in Southern California. One of the gigs I did was a birthday party for some huge Mexican family.
A couple days after the gig I found out one of the party guests had been kidnapped on her way home. Turns out the kidnapper was her best friend's cousin or some shit. The cops leaned on the friend hard and she finally gave him up.
Turns out he was part of a trafficking ring that was kidnapping teen girls and smuggling them into Mexico where they were sold to fuck knows who.
By the time they found her she had been raped repeatedly and was being kept in a gang house a couple of miles from the border. She was lucky because the cops got her before the traffickers could move her across.
Lots of other girls went missing in the San Diego area while I lived there. Usually high school and college aged girls. Pretty good chance most of those were trafficked.

I worked alongside a human trafficking research group for a while. From what we've found, a lot of traffic goes through Dallas. Mexicans are typically used as cheap slave labor for all sorts of things, not necessarily openly, though. People will pay them because they think they're just paying for cheap, illegal labor, but in reality, they're sent right back to what is essentially a big slave lockup and turn all their money in to their captors. Of course, they speak no English, so they can't tell anybody, and if the cartel guys figure out you told anybody, you're dying in the most brutal way imaginable. So, they keep their mouths shut and work in hopes of table scraps. For those of you wondering how they get into this situation, they put their lives entirely in the hands of cartels (coyotes) who bring them across the boarder and lead them to some cartel-owned slave lockup. Sometimes, they'll keep their children hostage as insurance. Sometimes, they'll just tell them that if they run, they know where their family is in Mexico. There's always something they use to keep them boxed in. Yes, slavery is happening all over the place right in front of us.
Men are usually used for things like field work, construction, or body parts if they're healthy and young. Women are used for exactly what you'd think: Prostitution. If they're too old or ugly or have some defect, they go with the men for field work.
Also there was a 14 year old girl who straight up vanished when I was in high school (2009) and the police are fairly certain it's a human trafficking case.
