Putin aside Ukraine and Belarus are in Russia sphere of influence. It's rather obvious Russia will react if one of their satellites tries to leaves Russia's orbit. Especially when the new government of such satellite expresses anti-Russian attitude and plans to close down a very important Russian naval base in Crimea and wants to host a NATO base there instead. Ukrainians should knew beforehand that Russia will react. Russian reaction simply overwhelmed them.
