Tariffs are not good as a general rule. If you put tariffs on the goods that you are importing (what Trump did) these goods are more expensive when they hit your market. Now, the situation is different with Trump (I hope) because these tariffs are to reduce import from the countries that rely on the export of their goods to the US, which in theory should make them more complacent if we ask them to drop their tariffs and stop plagiarizing and stealing out theft. This may rise prices in a few years. But how exactly it's going to play out is yet to be seen. If the manufacturing comes back and with the decreased immigration, the wages should go up in the US, that would cover for the small increase in prices. The jury is still up on these particular tariffs so we will see. But the tariffs themselves are not good and we know it from history.
