While I've always believed that abortion is the murder of a child (life begins at conception), as an edgy youth I believed, and openly preached, that abortion was a positive to society. To my knowledge, none of my partners ever needed to have one so the issue remained in a stae of limbo without ever reaching a conclsuion of whether I was okay with a woman murdering my own child for her own self-interested (and often hedonistic) principles. This opinion of mine took a hard turn toward an Eugenic's belief on abortion over the course of several years of maturing into an adult (a.k.a what race is it, is this partner a suitable mate, has the woman been abusing drugs/alcohol, etc..)
However this evening I found myself as clkose to the aforementioned conclusion as I've ever come. My girlfriend of several years told me out of the blue that while she hasn't missed her period yet, she feels like she's pregnant. Before I could say anything though she said " I'll just get an abortion though if I am, I'm not ready for a baby" as nonchalantly as someone asking a person to pass the salt at the dinner table. This is when my true inner beliefs flamed to life on the abortion issue. The rage I felt toward this woman who I thought I knew, so calmly describing how she'd MURDER a potential child of mine the same way she'd scrape a bug off the underside of her shoe. The same woman who pounded back drink after drink of hard liquor and wine in the past couple of weeks leading up to her insignificant (in her eyes) confrontation of the issue to me.
To say the least, I verbally berated her until she was a crying sobbing mess. However, I still don't understand why she felt the need to tell me about this when she clearly would have had an abortion despite my thoughts on the matter (considering she basically drank the liquor cabinet the past two weeks before even thinking of telling me). Did she want me to share in her inevitable guilt?
