It would be great if 60 years after the universities had no tuition but unfortunately both teachers (by exploiting the numbers of students/grants) and students(by choosing shit faculties) fucked the whole idea up. There were attempts of making it free, but UK reintroduced the fee's i think it's about £10k per year now. In rest of Europe it's still free as far as i know but mostly at the time those are just temporary parkings for unemployed lazy scum.

folks I've known in "The Trades" with lame college degrees do seem a bit better than those without lame degrees.

Because my property taxes have already paid for them to go through schooling, that has become more indoctrination than education. Once they graduate HS it is time for them to foot their own bill for more indoctrination, or work to save the money for it.

We actually don't have a shortage (doctor is debatable, but it's basically a guild that intentionally keeps its membership low). What we do have a shortage of is skilled tradesmen, so much so that we see many fields begging for fresh blood and are paying extremely well. The best part is you will encounter very few women as it requires actual work, and the nogs you come across are competent at their job.
