I sort of agree, it obviously depends on what you're doing and whether it's socially necessary or not. Like just because you're spending 40 hours digging and filling the same hole, is someone willing to pay you a good income to do it? If society doesn't want or need that service then you probably won't.
However the good thing about Capitalism is that it contually pushes people into productive activity that improves the standard of living of the whole society.
Don't forget that pre capitalism the entire family worked, Capitalism was the first time (and seemingly last) in human history where a man could become productive enough to earn an income that allowed his wife to stay at home and raise kids and educate those kids rather than forcing both of them to toil in the fields, toil in the work camps, or toil for any other reason but to better the family and society in progress towards better standards of living.
Even China is proof of that progress, they went from starving in rice paddie fields, to $1 per day factories and now to the point where the kids have less incentive to work because their father could feed and educate the family leading to the kids being able to go white collar. To the point where these same workers laughed at for being $1/day slaves, now earn more like $12,000USD p.a or enough to live comfortably in a major city at the same level as a retired American expat would, including entertainment, eating out, a fed and educated family and so on.
It's not leftist to want everyones lives to be better, they don't have a monopoly on empathy and compassion. At least ours actually led to the desired results.
